JESSE Hogan’s contract extension talks will drift well into the summer. The Melbourne key forward is in his hometown Perth considering his future.
The Demons have made little progress despite regular discussions and new coach Simon Goodwin spending time with Hogan’s management at last week’s elimination final.
Hogan, 21, is contracted until the end of 2017 and had put off extension talks until the end of this season.
He is split between his love of the Demons and a possible return to Western Australia.
Goodwin said at his first press conference as senior coach this week that he believed Hogan was keen to stay.
But Hogan will remain in WA until the start of the pre-season and seems in no hurry to resume contract talks.
His manager Jason Dover said on Friday he was still pondering his future after his exit interviews with the Demons in recent weeks.
“We are not in a hurry and we are quite comfortable with where things sit,” Dover said.
“Put it this way — there is no time line on it.
“I have had a discussion with Jesse but we aren’t any further advanced. I was at the footy with ‘Goody’ on the Thursday night watching the Eagles.
“We were able to have a good chat and he gave me some information and I gave him some.
“Jesse will come home and see where his head space is. It is making a decision to be with Melbourne or a request to come home. Nothing has been finalised.”
Hogan bought a house in Perth this year but it is understood it is a renovation project with his brother as an investment, rather than future home.
He kicked 41 goals this year but just two in his last five games, with commentators wondering whether his finish to the year might affect his lofty price tag.
