Melb have traded this year's 1st pick in the ND to GCS?

If so, doesn't that mean they can't trade this year's 2nd rd pick (to Ess for Hibberd), according to AFL rules?

Is this right,?
That rule only applies to future picks - they can do what ever they like with 2016 picks....

On top of trading picks 23, 36 and next year's first rounder for pick 10!

No McDonald-Tippa or Colyer in that side though, both of whom I imagine would be best 22 pretty easily and bring real speed.

On paper, they could easily make finals next year IMO.

Mitch Brown didn't even fit into that side and he finished the year off really well with a bunch of 10+ mark games.

The banned 12 missing this year will prolly help them in the long run, as it got games and exposure to the likes of Tippa, Parish, Brown and co. and they also get picks 1 and 20 out of it.
It's going to be a great season in 2017, you'd probably only right off Bris, norf and Carlton from top 8

Yep, ought to be serious competition for a spot in the 8 amongst as many as 14 teams.

Reckon you can just about put a line through North though, and probably Lolmond.

Maybe we need to help out Essendon and Melbourne. Offer a current 2nd rounder to keep Essendon happy, get Melbourne's future 2nd, and maybe an upgrade on our remaining 2nd rounder for our trouble ;)
If Melbourne trade Pick 29...their 1st pick will be 56?

Who knows after that...

Eagles have no ruck. Hawks have blown up. Roos and Tigers are DOA. Port are a hot mess. Same with the Suns and Pies. Lions, Dockers and Blues just not there yet. Bombers might have a dead cat bounce for a year but nothing sustained.

If we hit the right vein of form at the right time...

If they're not in finals contention after trading like they have then they're USCWAP!

I'm actually quite interested to see how they go next year. They're obviously getting rid of the lumbering types like Cloke and Brown and going to go with a much more mobile team like WB had this year and back their midfield in.

They performed extremely well against top 8 teams this year, so they just need to start playing better against the weaker teams and they could be in business.

Its funny how opinions change isnt it. Said the other day, after just looking at the picks that pick 5 made more sense than the touted gold coast picks. Was told thats not the target, now it is....

Strange.
Is that a crack at me because I said we were currently looking at a Suns pick but a Giants pick could be an option?

Strange.

Well, Barrels? Are you going to give us the bottom 6 of our best 22?

The public are waiting!
We'd need to know our best 22 first... ;)

But if we're saying (as of right now);

FB: Geary - Brown - Dempster
HB: Roberton - Carlisle - Savage
RK: Hickey - Steven - Armitage
CR: Newnes - Ross - Riewoldt
HF: Gresham - Bruce - Billings
FF: Weller - McCartin - Membrey
IC: Montagna Dunstan Wright Acres

Then our bottom 6 would be - IMO - Wright, Geary, Dunstan, Savage, Roberton and Brown. On form you could even say Billings!

Compare that to Eddy, Dawson, McQualter, Peake, Gwilt and either Ray or poor old Justin 'Structure' Koschitzke, and we're miles ahead in 2017.

Managed to get a best 22 in AND answer the question. I am a GOD!

If GWS end up with pick 13 instead of 5, would we look at getting our hands on that?

13 and 15 for next years first and 26? Or do we just keep both picks for next year.

Those picks could likely get us 2 of Logue, Simpkin, Berry, Florent or Bolton.

I don't expect any of those guys to make it to pick 26

The top 7 were so even this year that it's pretty hard to judge what will happen next year. I think North are certainties to fall out of the 8, and Hawthorn are setting themselves up to do the same thing.

Really, any of the other finalists from this year just need a shitty run to fall down. West Coast seem vulnerable, and Adelaide are far from consistent.

Us and the Demons seem the most likely to come up. Port haven't made any moves to make themselves a better team yet this off season which will hold them back.

I'm getting really excited about next season already. We've filled the obvious holes in our backline, added much needed depth in the middle, and haven't lost any required players in the process. Honestly, at this point I'd be disappointed with anything less than finals.
