We'd need to know our best 22 first... ;)

But if we're saying (as of right now);

FB: Geary - Brown - Dempster
HB: Roberton - Carlisle - Savage
RK: Hickey - Steven - Armitage
CR: Newnes - Ross - Riewoldt
HF: Gresham - Bruce - Billings
FF: Weller - McCartin - Membrey
IC: Montagna Dunstan Wright Acres

Then our bottom 6 would be - IMO - Wright, Geary, Dunstan, Savage, Roberton and Brown. On form you could even say Billings!

Compare that to Eddy, Dawson, McQualter, Peake, Gwilt and either Ray or poor old Justin 'Structure' Koschitzke, and we're miles ahead in 2017.

Managed to get a best 22 in AND answer the question. I am a GOD!
Honestly, I would put Steele ahead of Dunstan if the latter isn't able to increase his disposal count and add an outside game.

Us and the Demons seem the most likely to come up. Port haven't made any moves to make themselves a better team yet this off season which will hold them back.
Port get Paddy Ryder back tho, so he helps a LOT in an area they were really lacking in this year (they basically conceded the hitouts most weeks!).

Us getting Carlisle in cancels that out though and then on top of him we could be adding Stevens, Steele, Brown and whoever else.

Port will really need to pull something out of the hat to not get passed by a few sides I reckon, so they've really taken a big gamble to trade their 2017 first for so little return.

top end talent tho couldn't be further from what we had.

Roo, Hayes, BJ, NDS, Fisher, Milne
vs
Steven,.........
I feel like you're comparing those players in their peak to a lot of the youngsters we have now.

Compare the 2002/2003 model Riewoldt, Hayes, Goddard, NDS, Fisher and Milne
to the 2017 model Ross, Acres, Billings, Newnes, Roberton, Gresham, Bruce, Membrey, McCartin etc.

I don't know, I reckon we have a fair bit to work with in lines to potential top-end talent... especially if guys like Sinclair, Lonie, Steele, Freeman, McKenzie etc. can keep pushing the list onwards and upwards.

I'm looking forward to seeing this group hit their straps over the next few years!!

Just in regards to the Hawks desperation to land Tom Mitchell and JOM.

Has there ever been another club trade away the b&f winner and the runner up a few weeks after the b&f??

I know neither are young but i cant recall another club ever doing that.?

If we'd known that Port were about to throw away their 2017 first for so little in return I wonder if we might have tried to trade one of our 2017 firsts and our 2 2nd rounders this year for some picks that would have trumped the 19 and 30 they got for it, so that we could get it ourselves?

Eg. trade our 2017 first and 23 and 36 this year for picks like 15, 18 and 27 and then offer Port 18 and 27 for their 2017 first and then we'd have 15, a possibly top 6 pick in next year's draft (Port's) and Hawthorn's 2017 first.

Then trade Hawthorn's 2017 first or Port's first for one or more first rounders this year. Giving us at least two firsts this year and a first next year.

Webster over Dempster?
I'd back him in yeah.

Seany D's last year next year and with the likes of Roberton and Webster I think we can cover that spot and should give them the chance to develop and gel together. If we have any issues Dempster would be the first one in though for sure.

Well we sacked our coach the day Harvey won his second Charlie.

Yep, ought to be serious competition for a spot in the 8 amongst as many as 14 teams.

Reckon you can just about put a line through North though, and probably Lolmond.
Even the Tigers will be a possible top 8 quality side if they get in Prestia and Nankervis along with keeping Deledio.

The top 7 were so even this year that it's pretty hard to judge what will happen next year. I think North are certainties to fall out of the 8, and Hawthorn are setting themselves up to do the same thing.

Really, any of the other finalists from this year just need a shitty run to fall down. West Coast seem vulnerable, and Adelaide are far from consistent.

Us and the Demons seem the most likely to come up. Port haven't made any moves to make themselves a better team yet this off season which will hold them back.

I'm getting really excited about next season already. We've filled the obvious holes in our backline, added much needed depth in the middle, and haven't lost any required players in the process. Honestly, at this point I'd be disappointed with anything less than finals.
I reckon Adelaide are still in challenge mode. WC losing Nick Nat for the year puts them back and Geelong are a concern. Too many guys gone or close to the end for me and their really have to have Danger playing career best footy to stay up. Boris and Bartel are gone you would think and they are looking less likely to add talent now.
