Finey talking about how lazy Carlton is trying to get all their players from GWS bc of SOS involvement and there are 16 other clubs they should take players from and how bad it'll be for them.

I hope the Carlton recruiters are not listening. Shut up Finey and let them keep going... our good mates GWS would like their pick 5 ;)

Why because I actually bring up things that St Kilda hasn't landed when someone suggests that we nail everything we want?

Why don't you address my points rather than make a weak personal swipe?

SOS widely acknowledged as being a good bloke before a good judge of talent, take that how you will but just be happy he's not our head of recruiting.

Richmond are poised to finally secure Dion Prestia from Gold Coast as the trade period draws to a close.

A deal that would send contracted Carlton star Bryce Gibbs home to Adelaide also appears close to being reached.

While Gold Coast and Hawthorn were likely to head into mediation over Jaeger O'Meara, the Suns and Richmond were close to closing a deal in which the Tigers would concede pick 6 for the former top 10 draft pick.

Under the deal, Richmond would give the Suns their first pick, as well a future second-round pick.

The Tigers would gain Prestia as well as a second-round selection this year, strengthening their position in the coming draft.

The clubs were negotiating over whether the pick returned to Richmond would be 24 or 26.

But both were confident on Tuesday night that a deal was extremely close to being done.

The Tigers already hold one second-round pick, the compensation for Tyrone Vickery's move to Hawthorn as a free agent.

Collingwood will trade pick Jarrod Witts to Gold Coast for pick 44, with the Pies to get a bit back in return.

The Gibbs deal could involve Adelaide's pick 13 and their second-round pick next year.

Under another scenario Adelaide would hand over next year's first-round pick in addition to 13 this year, and get Carlton's 2017 second-round pick back.

For the Crows, that would mean sliding down the 2017 draft order rather than giving up a full selection.

If Carlton secure pick 13 from the Crows, GWS will request that pick alone for defender Caleb Marchbank.

A separate deal would then need to be done for Jarrod Pickett.

Negotiations between the Hawks and Suns have been tense throughout the trade period, with Hawthorn now insisting pick 10 is their final offer for O'Meara.

The clubs could go into mediation on Wednesday in an effort to break the deadlock.

The Suns traded two other second-rounders as part of a deal for Lions defender Pearce Hanley on Tuesday morning.

The trade saw the Suns gain Hanley, who made his start as an international rookie from Ireland nine years ago, as well as Port Adelaide's pick 67.

The Lions received Port's 2017 first-round selection, as well as the Suns' pick 22. The Power took picks 19 and 30, giving them a stronger hand in this year's draft.

Brisbane Lions are committed to trading for Collingwood defender Jack Frost and may need to use a future pick.

The future of Brett Deledio was still up in the air late on Tuesday, with the veteran still a strong chance to remain at the club next year rather than move to Geelong.

Less than two years after signing him as a delisted free agent, the Western Bulldogs sent Joel Hamling home to Fremantle, effectively for a second-round pick.

The Dogs received pick 35 for Hamling, one of many grand final heroes given his job on star Sydney forward Lance Franklin.

They clubs also swapped later picks, with the Bulldogs receiving picks 43 and 61 for picks 40 and 63.

Fremantle must now work a deal with Geelong for forward Shane Kersten, a close friend of Hamling, while the Bulldogs will trade midfielders Koby Stevens and Nathan Hrovat.

The Dogs will also send a late draft pick to Collingwood for forward Travis Cloke.

The Pies are on the lookout for defensive reinforcement following Nathan Brown's move to St Kilda, with Melbourne's Lynden Dunn and Docker Alex Silvagni two they are looking at.

Dunn struggled to break into the Demons' line-up this year, and Melbourne's need to clear up enough list spots ahead of the draft may make his position there more vulnerable.

Sydney ruckman Toby Nankervis is understood to have asked the Swans for a trade to the Tigers.

The Tigers and Swans had explored a trade sending Reece Conca to Sydney for Nankervis, but the Swans were not keen on the injury-prone Conca and Richmond decided to keep him.

The Tigers were still keen to pursue the young developing ruckman in a separate trade.

A number of clubs are waiting to see which clubs end up with which picks, hoping to move further up the draft order.

Whatever makes you feel superior I guess muscles...

Of course we don't get everything we want, that's a bit of artistic licence, but you don't know the CLUB - not this board - genuinely wanted them, and are just looking for something to quibble about.

Enjoy it, cuddle it to you like a moth-eaten blankie. The rest of us will just enjoy the ride.

Finally. some news. Looks like 5 will stay at Carlton, so is 6 from GC the goal now if we're after Brodie?

Agree that it worked out well missing Jaksch, but I'd be disappointed if we didn't try for Prestia or Mitchell.

We would have tried or at least enquired about them and many other players. All clubs miss players in trade period no matter how good they are. To think otherwise is plain silly.

I was overseas during this time last year (the last of three years) and I missed all the drama with the Carlisle trade.

From what you've all been posting, it must have been something!!

I'd really be interested in how you would compare that trade, and all it's associated posturing, with what is going down now between Hawthorn and Gold Coast.

If it's got to the point where mediation is needed then that doesn't bode well for a good outcome between them.

Did that happen with the Carlisle trade?

I just get the feeling that this year GC are making a statement.

Echoing the stance of their President, Cochrane, who "doesn't bluff, read my Facebook profile."

They're probably annoyed at the southern clubs pinching their talent, and my guess is they are digging in their heels.

Both Richmond and Hawthorn are having difficulties closing their respective deals.

(Mind you, that just might be a reflection on them rather than GC).

With Prestia I guess it is pick 6 or the highway.

And O'Meara?

No idea but a lot.

I can see a situation where they would be prepared to walk away from any deal with Hawthorn and then either redraft O'Meara in the Pre-season draft (assuming neither Brisbane or Essendon touch him), or even redraft him in the National Draft at pick 8.

Or even lose him at the Pre-season.

Any of those outcomes are telling the competition not to stuff around with us and our playing list.

More importantly is the message it sends to their players.

They may consider that message well worth the cost of losing him for nothing, or redrafting him and losing the benefit of pick 8 on another player.

It may prove cheaper in the long term (it's not as if they don't have ample picks anyway).

And it would certainly tighten the jockstraps of any club who came poaching in the future!!

Gold Coast would end up looking pretty silly if they fought all this time to get pick 6 (when Richmond offered them next years) only to trade it to us for our next years first. But I suppose it might make sense if we give them 23. Effectively they'd be getting next years first AND 23 for Prestia.
