Adel Pick 13 > GWS
Carlton Gibbs > Adelaide
GWS > Pickett & Marchbank to Carlton
Thats basically what the Blues need to consider.

Is Gibbs equal to Pickett and Marchbank and keeping pick 5? The answer is yes, all day, every day.

The deal will get done, Gibbs is coming home.

He could possibly be on 300k per year at the Crows if Rezagun was correct about Gibb's contract being front loaded massively over the last two years, haha. Bargain.

SOS now needs a way to save face and avoiding a direct trade with us for 13 and involving GWS does that.

Dont I just peed my pants a little hearing that.

Hartless is on $600k, stays with them and stuffs up their salary cap. We get Gibbs for $300k thats enough to make the Alberton thugs angry. If we could only lose 400kay, we could actually end up with Salary cap surplus from trade week. (ignoring the other delistings)

In: Gibbs $300k
Out: Mackay $400k

We get a superior player and we save $100k.

Gibbs contract would be renegotiated with another year maybe added on.
That would be foolish to do that, if his reasons to come home are genuinely personal we hold leverage in that regard too.

I would let the last 3 years of his contract on possibly $300k play out first. He will be around 31 when his current contract expires.

There can be only one...
When someone is selling a nice car for pennies you should ask more questions, not mutter bargain.
There are probably numerous factors at play.

Giants gave him an extension, he is contracted for 2017 with a salary of around $300k (which I assume we are going to carry) and he isn't going to play in 2017. That frees up the list spot and some cap space.

Players with serious injuries that require a lot of rehabilitation also take up a lot of time and resources to manage that a fit and healthy player wouldn't.

Giants don't have a shortage of talent coming in, at present, they could realistically have asked a lot more for Ahern but they likely wouldn't have used the pick they got on anything other than academy fodder and they will likely have more than enough points once they clear out a few more players.

Ahern wanted to return to Melbourne.

Giants probably don't see our club as an immediate threat for their current side, they would probably rather trade him cheaper to us than for him to end up a club that might be in competition with them over the next few years.

If the Gibbs trade isn't close to being done by this afternoon, we should offer Brisbane our 2017 2nd rounder and Mackay for Rockliff. We get Rockliff for cheap and remove Mackay's salary from the cap, Noble gets rid of a troublemaker and bring in a senior player to set professional standards.

Trading next years pick means SOS can't ask for next years first, so unless he want to trade pick 5 for Marbank he'll have to settle for pick 13.

True.

That reminds me of #geelonglogic we cant hand over fair value for Danger ie two first round draft picks because we already gave a future one for another player.

Interestingly, the Cats not giving us a first rounder this year for Danger may have saved us having to part for two first rounders for Gibbs. Lets be honest, #sillysosage would have been asking for this right off the bat if it was available.

Yep, saves GWS spending $300k on a player that they know won't play a game next year. North are basically taking a financial risk and salary cap hit only as a pick that low in the draft is like a lottery pick anyway. Salary cap probably isn't a big issue for North next year as they've gotten rid of quite a lot of highly paid players this off-season.

If Mackay refused to be traded to Melbourne and/or Carlton, why the heck would he agree to be traded to Brisbane?
