I dont mind that we havent necessarily brought in someone but I am currently disappointed we havent been on the front foot a bit more in trading out a couple of guys that have stagnated or arent in our long term plans. I dont mean our scraps but someone of the ilk of Atley for example who would have good currency and allow us to get a bit higher in the draft

JB using the term 'aggressive reset' would mean we are looking to change our list substantially and we currently havent done anything to suggest we are doing that.

Going into the last day of trade period says to me that we are working around the periphery with what we are looking to do which is fine most years but this year I was really hoping for a much more aggressive approach. I really hope we end up tomorrow with a top 20 pick somehow or it doesnt make much sense to me.
I am hoping that an "aggressive reset" refers to a change of game plan as well as a change of players. My view is that we have been left behind by the increasing pace of the game and the extra running required in the last few years and developed a game plan to counter that: defensive, congested footy with slow careful movement of the ball, often along the boundary line. Kicking out after behinds for example, more often than not we kicked to a statue on the boundary line about 15 metres. That statue usually went back, took his time, and then kicked further along the boundary line or back into the goal square. There was no attempt to use Atley's pace because we wanted to move the ball slowly so we could keep up with the opposition. In last year's trade and draft, and so far in this trade period, it is obvious that we are looking for runners and hopefully we will adapt our game plan accordingly. We might take risks on the backline to get the ball to Atley and others to move the ball quickly, knowing we have some runners up the ground to spread and provide options

Felt pretty aggressive when we looked ahead and imagined North playing with none of Harvey, Petrie, Firrito, Wells, or Dal Santo. That's five regular senior players replaced every week, and chances for guys who are on our list because they were rated. We have spent no usable picks and brought in another very talented kid. It would have been great (would be if it happens tomorrow) to see our middling hand win some more top trade talent, or some of our lesser lights moved on to improve our hand, but we could do nothing this week and still have shaken our list and and to the core.
I'm all aboard the letting go of our senior guys and playing our younger guys but that should only be the first part of a plan to replace them through trade or draft. Right now it feels like we are in no man's land and not doing enough.

Im sure the club have a plan, it's just hard to understand what it is at the moment. Just hoping we can get a view of it to avoid unrest.

The only thing we have heard from the club is from JB that we will be in an aggressive reset so I can only base my expectations of trade period on that and so far I'm disappointed. I'm not doom and gloom at all - was just hoping for more action

Outstanding post kudos.

I keep hearing how disappointed people are that "we haven't done more". The only way to make certain that a counterparty will do a deal with you is to ensure it is a great deal for them, i.e. pay overs or accept unders. I can't see this strategy being too popular around these parts.

If you're working on deals but mindful of what you are giving / getting, with the other side doing the same, then the process is harder. Looking for win-wins is where all clubs should be, and that is why we are pointing and laughing at Hawthorn - their "win" is saving salary cap, but at what cost?

They get Geelong's first rounder. Even if Geelong win the flag not sure I'd give up pick 18 for Touhy.
They get Carlton's second rounder next year in return though. Can't see Carlton improving massively or Geelong dropping off massively, so we're talking over a 6-8 pick downgrade to get a rid of a spud in Smedts and bring in a solid player in Tuohy. Good move from Geelong.

Any update on Hrovat? Are we still keen on him or have we shut up shop for this year's trade period? Would've thought the deal would've been done by now

Firstly, i really don't mind the slack and i definitely don't take it personally, to be fair it's probably deserving due to generating a "false sense of hope" which i apologise for doing. Anyway in regards to the "big fish" i've never once stated that we would land this player, only stated that we are making a play. You often hear that when teams land a big name player, the discussions have been in the works for 6-12 months in advance. It was never likely to happen this trade period, but never the less, we have shown our interest and have made it clear that we want this player out our club which could go a long way to help landing him next year. Next year "should" be a much easier year to try and lure this player due to probably obvious reasons. I'm sure you may be able to narrow down who the player actually is based of what i have already said.

School kid out,
Many of us have already named him. Let's hope he doesn't win another Brownlow or we might get swamped in a bidding war.

Oops, have I said too much?

While I'm not at all pissed off about us missing out on a "big fish", I am pretty disappointed that we will only have one top 25 pick in this years draft. With the likes of (maybe) Petrevski-Seton, Taranto or Scrimshaw available at 11 it would have been great to find a way to get another 1-2 picks in that range and get a combination of Venables, Florent, Simpkin and Cox as well. With our need for pacey, skilled midfielders this is literally the perfect draft for us to attack, yet instead it looks like we'll be going into next year with Hansen, Black, Thompson, Swallow and Tippett all still on the list. I know some of those guys have very little currency, but surely we could have at least traded Hansen/Thompson and Swallow in order to upgrade our early 30's picks to late teens/early 20's?

Also, I think we should have been looking closely at trading next year's picks, for example 2017 1st and pick 33 to Gold Coast for say picks 8 and 24? Gold Coast have so many picks this year and we need to get young talent in ASAP, that kind of pick would likely get us our Wellsy replacement in Petrevski-Seton. Now I'm not saying we haven't made any attempt, but you have to ask what our guys have been doing over the last 10 days if the only deal we get done is a late pick for Ahern (a deal which I am a big fan of btw).

So yeah, I guess with the term "aggressive reset" being thrown around and the potency of this years draft as well as the amount of talented players looking like they will slip through our fingers, i guess I feel pretty disappointed that our guys haven't made more of this opportunity. :(

I think I'm disappointed because I have no idea of our direction any more and based on delisting the 4 and the snippets from JB, I assumed we would be really on the front foot to get us out of a middle of the road ladder position. We can only do that through draft or trade and I just hope we get some more picks tomorrow.

I agree trades are tough but to be honest I would have been ok to let go of a couple of others at slight unders to really attack this midfielders draft.

I'm hoping we see a couple of picks tomorrow
