Fringe Crow Cam Ellis-Yolmen weighing up his options
Lee Gaskin September 24, 2016 9:42 AM

FRINGE Adelaide midfielder Cam Ellis-Yolmen will weigh up his options before deciding whether to request a trade for the chance to play more senior football.

The 23-year-old is contracted until the end of 2017 and has been told he is a required player, but only managed two senior games for the Crows this year despite Patrick Dangerfield's departure to Geelong.

Ellis-Yolmen is in his fifth season with the Crows and was a standout in their SANFL side this year.

"Cam just wants an opportunity to play AFL," Ellis-Yolmen's manager Ben Williams told The Advertiser.

"He loves the Crows and thinks he can play an important role for them going forward, but he is a bit frustrated by his lack of game time.

"That's what he has to consider so he'll assess all his options, see what the Crows want to do with their midfield and see how the trade period plays out."

Selected with the 64th overall pick in the 2011 draft, Ellis-Yolmen had to wait until 2014 to make his debut.

His most productive season was last year when he played 11 games, averaging 16 possessions and 4.8 tackles.

This year, Ellis-Yolmen played in Adelaide's round 20 win against the Brisbane Lions and their round 23 loss to West Coast, kicking two goals in each game.

Veteran midfielder Scott Thompson is likely to sign a one-year extension with the Crows next week.

They are also keen to retain out-of-contract midfielder Jarryd Lyons.

The Crows could be active during the trade period in a bid to bolster their midfield and have been linked to several big names to assist Rory Sloane.

But the club champion insists the likes of Ellis-Yolmen, Rory Atkins (aged 22), Lyons (24) and Matt (21) and Brad Crouch (22) can continue to improve.

"I think there's easily enough depth," Sloane said.

"Media creates a bit of pressure from games throughout the year, unfortunately we got our colours lowered against Sydney (in the semi-final) as a midfield group on the weekend and that's where all this stems from.

"When we all chip in and play our role as a group, you see some of our best wins during the year.

"We certainly got the guys there, it's about making sure we're consistent as a whole group and a whole team."

Matt Crouch – who finished seventh – was the only other midfielder besides Sloane in the top 10 in the club's best and fairest count on Friday night.

Swallow, Mitchell, Cunnington and JZ in the same 22 likely wouldn't win a game.

There is no chance we chase Mitchell. The Coach has pretty much guaranteed Swallow's starting spot next year.

Players on other teams I hope we target -
Ellis Yolmen
Lyons
Hartung
Langford
Lennon
Tom Mitchell
De Goey

Players I hope we don't target -
Hartlett
Brown
Mayne
Motlop
Tuohy

You take a stab on a couple of these young players that won't cost too much to bring in and they might pan out to be stars ala Docherty. Obvious exception is Mitchell who is just an out and out superstar.

Edit - Or.maybe we just go to the draft table. It seems most players who can kick and are quick get games in their respective sides, and won't be looking to move.

Hartung is poison. Skills worse than Sam Gibson. Don't be fooled by his speed, he is a spud.

De Goey is worth more than Pick 11 and isn't available?

Langford has played 2 good games which luckily for him were big finals.

What does the comment about De Goey mean? I think he would be available if you talked to his manager, was dropped twice this year and the pies are rumoured to be getting Wells and Dal Santo and perhaps others, if that happens he's going further down the pecking order and more likely to want to leave.

How good would it be if Wells compo turned into De Goey.

Left field. Gws apparently under salary cap pressure we can't get near paying ours. Atley, pick 11 and next years 2nd for Kelly and pick 36ish. Kangas pay $250k of atley's salary for 2 years. Gws get salary cap relief a high pick for academy points and give a pick back they don't need.

Bahawaha..... Money isn't going to change players minds. Why is Mitchell looking to leave?
Mitchell is looking to leave only because the Swans have salary cap problems. No other reason.

They paid him overs to keep him last contract (pre Buddy and Tippett) and can't offer him the same $ on the next contract. He has earned a pay increase and the best the Swans can do is a decrease. They are resigned to losing him because Hannebery, Parker, Kennedy, Jack and Heeney are all ahead of him in the Swans midfield.

Amazingly if the Cats got Boomer (a real gun forward small rather than Motlop), Petrie (To help Hawkins) & Wells (To hit a target) all for nothing

then then they would be a good thing to win 2017 flag !!!!
That would make for interesting footy.

Want to target ellis-yolmen but don't want tuohy...interesting.

Ellis yolmen is a b-grade inside mid. It'd be like having daniel harris back

We need A graders, so if they don't have that ceiling, just pass and develop what is on our list.

I would go after:
Hartlett
Mitchell
Jaeger (don't give up yet)
Swallow
One of the Giants

Only because of the age thing, until yesterday I wanted to get Tuohy, but at his age that's as good as hell get and those other guys have potential to be a lot better than they are now and at a cheaper price. If we didn't start going for a more youth movement and were still contending next year id love to get him.

I find it odd that Motlop was so good in 2015 and so bad this year. I would happily have given up our first pick for him last year.

I'd still like the club to have a chat to him. He will not cost the earth and Geelong will pay a little of his salary.
