My preferences in order of players speculated would be:

Hurley
Crouch
Gaff
Marchbank
Tomlinson
Steele
Mcdonald

I've left Omeara and Swallow out because of injuries, but would still have them high on list of priorities if medicals were passed.

Outside of these I think it's really just shuffling the deck chairs.
Jack watts as a free agent is one I want And would add to that list.

Nathan Brown the next best free agent imo and fills the KPD need

If rumours of Rockliff wanting out then I'd love to reunite him with Ziebs and wright from their Murray bushranger days.
Would be nice to have a midfield accumulator with mongrel

McDonald, Garner, Jacobs, Higgins & Wright as ins make a fair difference in terms of strength and flexibility through mid, half back and half forward! No Fyfes and Dangers amongst them - but they're held in the regard they are cos they're rare. Still, the Nth guys mentioned are a great bunch of players.

Key defender is a tough one to fill though.
Yes they are big 'ins' next year but we are craving a line breaker.

Who is the last legitimate superstar midfielder we've had apart from the 400 game freak of nature?
Wellsy maybe but with his injuries and inconsistent years probably a star but not a super one.

JZ, Cunners, Goldy, Froggy, Higgins, Jacobs, Clarke, BBB, Wright, Taz, Garner, Atley JMac and LMac give us a core group to build on but gee there will be more holes in our squad than a Swiss cheese platter.

We need a key CHB and Durdin should at least be trialled there ASAP, we need a fast small forward and a skilled back pocket - maybe the brains trust should look at switching Lindsay and Atley for a couple of games to try something outside the box before the season finishes?

But as far as trades go we need A graders otherwise get as many high draft picks as possible and hit the draft hard.

Why Watts? He struggles as a genuine key position player and when there is a bit of heat he generally goes missing. We want Wood to stay as a third tall which is the only position Watts looks half decent in. His defensive effort leaves a lot to be desired as well!

Brown is as slow as an iceberg and as injury prone as just about anyone in the Comp. getting dropped from th current Collingwood side is a good reflection of where his career is at! Would rather we just play Tippett.

Rockliff is the last sort of mid we need. Slow inside midfielder. While he does get more footy on the outside he isn't the damaging mid we need.

Disagree with your opinion. I think we are way too quick to write of Key position players

Only 22 years old and still has a lot of development left in him. His first few years remind me a lot of Petrie, actually, been a lot better than Petrie.
You want a player for Scott to develop?

pretty sure Hawthorn have a few A-Graders playing at Box Hill we could trade away our first rounder for.:thumbsu:

Didn't watts sign a new deal?

Jaeger O'Meara
Josh Kelly
Dion Prestia
David Swallow
Brad Crouch
Caleb Marchbank

any of these would be sensational pickups for us and should be our highest priority (except for signing Mase of course). The likes of Jack Steele and Adam Tomlinson would also be worth looking at if they're available.

If Freo delist Anthony Morabito I'd love for us to give him a shot as a rookie. He's been incredibly unlucky with injuries, but if our fabled medical staff could get him right he has the potential to be exactly the player we are lacking. A 24 year old, 189cm midfielder with explosive pace, great skills and the ability to get more than 17 possessions a game? He was a number 4 draft pick, and even though it would be a high risk pickup, surely the risk would be worth it if it's only costing us Nahas' spot!

I think in either mine or your case, we'd be totally changing the dynamic of our list by targeting those types of players. Instead of facing a steep fall we'd be straight back up into contention for a minimum 3-4 years.

Obviously its highly unlikely that Hurley will be going anywhere and its even more unlikely that we will trade Swallow. But I think if we took those risks, it would turn out to be some seriously good trading on behalf of the club.

Yep must be bullish for quality this trade period or go the full rebuild mode.

I'm not sure he is the player he was drafted as. His knee injuries have seriously inhibited his speed and power.

WC aren't idiots. They would know Swallow possibly only has a season or two left in him.
The idea that either him or Thompson have any trade value is fanciful.
That's why we trade him to GWS for Marchbank.

They're under some serious salary cap pressure with all their 1st rounders coming into prime years.. They get a seasoned (former AA) backman for peanuts - even if they use him as depth.

We continue to travel the way we are no player will choose North as a destination. Hurley has a pick of, Essendon, Bulldogs, North, probably Hawks, Richmond, and 1 or 2 more clubs.

Sad but true, not that we've been a major destination for bigger name players anyway. So unless we are offering higher wages then anyone else we wouldnt even be in with a sniff for Hurley.

We haven't been the club of choice of any player IN DEMAND for quite some time. Maybe since Colbert days. It's vital to land someone just for that reason alone, as it would change the club image for the better. But I can't see Hurley being that player - he will probably end up at Hawthorn I'd say.
