The club has been courting him for over 16 months. They obviously within the 4 walls thought that our list was nearly there and needed some cream to top us up. We also scream when we want a player and he chooses to go elsewhere eg treloar. We also scream why no top player wants to come to us. Now if we go back on our word with prestia as he has agreed to join us how is that going to help with the other 2. I'm not saying that his worth top 5 6 or whatever i'm just saying you should keep your word even if you made a mistake and face it.
Believe what was written this time last year , within the 16 months you are suggesting, Treloar had indicated he was coming, the club looked like playing finals , Yarran looked a great chance of being on the list and available into the future , whilst Lennon and cellis showed something to suggest they could step into a genuine best 22 , whilst concas injuries appeared short term, chaplain wasnt slowing up and vickery give a shit. By no means does this mean they were going to be best 22 or snything better but at least providing some depth at worst.
Fast forward and we have a 1-5 pick instead of the possibly predicted 12+ pick, chaplin gone, yarran hasnt and shows no indication of firing a shot, vickery's gone while first round picks lennon , cellis and conca look less and less likely. That is potentially 6, 6-30 players gone or looking alot more unlikely of being the player hoped 16 months ago.
Good enough for players to jump out of verbal assurances, good enough for clubs.
Being the nicest club doesnt always equate to premierships.

Well if the club is righting off Lennon and Corey Ellis because they have had an injury affected year then we are stuffed.

Minor knee surgery. We could certainly do worse.
True we could do worse, but with pick 5 or 6 we can get a good kid or attempt to trade down for multiple picks.

I read that we've been in discussions with him since early in the season, back then probably thinking we'd have a pick between 10 -15. Obviously our 1st pick has extra value now.

I think we need to add depth to our list and at the same time be patient that's why I'd be trying to get as many good kids onto the list as possible, hit the next few drafts hard and be creative at the trade table.

That's the theory anyway just a matter of our recruiting staff and list manager pulling their finger out and identifying the talent and then having the coach/s capable of developing that talent.

What is it with supporters obsession with trying to get in a big name recruit. With the exception of Nathan Brown pre injury it hasn't worked for us. We need to go to the ND. Any talk of giving up 5 for an undersized mid with a bad knee is bizarre.

See thats all talk cause we don't know what the clubs are or have worked out do we. We have brought this up 5 thingy. For a change lets relax and see what the draft brings we have more entertaining things happening and to happen before that.

You say we're shit at recruiting, and then shoot down the idea of recruiting a very good player in the same breath.

As for his wages, I doubt it would be anything overly exorbitant, and it's gotta go to someone anyway to spend 95% of the cap.

But by all means, let's all jump back aboard the Richmond carousel of hitting the draft hard and seeing where that gets us, instead of trying to do something while we've got 4-5 of the most talented players to have played for Richmond in the last 30 years all in their mid 20's. I'll see you back here in 7 years for the next one.
Good post mate. Ideally we get Prestia and manipulate it that we stay in the first round somehow. Our list is not that bad. With a good coaching and an adaptable game plan combined with smart recruitment/drafting/development i think we can have a crack in the next 3 - 5 years.

Adding guaranteed quality players to your list is not a bad thing. I doubt we would give up pick 4 for Prestia and instead offer player swap or next year's first. If we did offer 4 I reckon we would get another late first rounder in return as well as the meatball. In such an even draft that sounds reasonable to me.

People need to chill their boots a little though.

Prestia is suited to a side who has great depth and needs top end talent to tske itself from top 4 to gebuine contender .
RFC is in the complete opposite position, in case people advocating his recruitmrnt havent realised there is a real chance we will finish bottom 4 not top 4. Whilst the issue is depth not top end. The club has as good a top end (5) as any club . 6 -22 on the other hand is of real concern.
The average playing career IIRC is still around 7 years , whilst it is reasonably common for small inside mids to succomb to injuries in the 100-200 btacket and as such have form drop off and a very small window where they are near peak form . RFC and its members of all people should be well aware of this coghlan , foley.
prestia is 24 , 6th year , approx 100 games and is going to take our 6-22 issue to 7-22 and has had somewhat consistant injury issues already.
He has 1-2 years max left in him near his peak and would be 6th in the peaking order at RFC .
it is highly likely when thete is enough depth from recently drafted kids, prestia is going to be beyond his peak.
You shouldn't give up the possibility of gaining a 8 year contributor for this type of player especially where the club is currently at, if you have decent recruiters whom you have faith in.
like talls take longer smalls develop earlier as do there injuries ( generally) , especially inside mids not skirts like boomer.
So recruiting top end talent that is young is a mistake hahaha

I'm pretty sure I read recently that Suns want players not picks for any players that are leaving this year ! So hopefully we will get Dion & keep our 1st pick which can then be used on best kid available or used some other way ! It would be what we need to give though ?

Prestia is a significant upgrade and I love miles.

Also where are people getting $7-750k per year for Prestia. I don't know what his offer is but surely it won't be that much
They are basing it on what treloar got cause they think they are one of a kind.
