anyone thinking about big fish can forget it, last year we finished 5th and made finals and the expectations were top 4 this year, if we couldn't land a big fish after last year's finish we never will, now that everyone realizes our list is shit we have no hope of enticing anyone big.

Let's face it we are not winning a flag this year or next so best we draft the best kids we can, trade or delist our duds for picks and hit the draft.

as far as trading guys like Edwards it's about who else on our list can cover his position eg short, rioli or loyd may not be as good as him but play a role plus what we get in the draft for him as long as both combined are better then Edwards we win.

keep the core and draft the rest

Shane Edwards is not an A grader people.

Only one player who gets under 18 possessions a game who should be classed as one and that's Cyril.

He simply doesn't do enough often enough to justify it and IF we can get a piece to help us improve in an area of deficiency, say Ruck, or nab us another first rounder, I'd be happy to let him go.

Keep repeating it. Cotchin, Deledio, Martin, Riewoldt and Rance. They are our core who can't be traded. Build around them.

He shits himself in big games as well. He wouldn't be the first I put on the table but he definitely wouldn't be the last. Brandon Ellis and Ben Lennon are the first to go for me. They have value. Conca, Grigg and Griffiths are next if anyone wants to give up anything for them.

Would like to hold onto Lennon for another year
As for Griffiths it would be a bit of a toss up between him and Vickery ...probably get more for Vickery ...
As for the rest ...hell yer

Not sure if your trolling. Ellis, Lennon and Vlastuin as youngsters would be the last to let go and on a value basis I would add Conca to and possibly Griffiths to not let go either given currency would be low anyway

Unfortunately for us the scum are seeing us coming from miles away and we will swoop on Travis since we are desperate to show we can "lure" a big fish. So be prepared to go apeshit dudes. Travis will be in yellow and black next year

He won't.

Cloke is on big money and we would be infected to pay him even a third of that!

If Bastinac , greenwood reddan jedd Anderson can draw 20 ish pick then Edwards sure as heck would . Anyways I'd be keeping him, don't mark him in on his start after a knocked up collarbone and broken hand stuffed the start to his season , he can play .
Conca, Ellis, Lennon , griff and tv are the bargaining chips

B. Ellis is shit. Soft outside midfielder who can't kick. Lennon has done nothing but I remember Carlton, St Kilda and Geelong were interested last off season. He's also slow, soft and has a terrible work rate. We should cash in while we can and trade these two for players that fill a need.

They are interested for a reason. Maybe the problem is not Ellis and Lennon and others need to go

Been thinking about the make up of our list and the changes that the club should make to it around.

KPP/Rucks:
Keepers - Soldo Griffiths Chol Elton Riewoldt Rance C.Moore.

Trade Bait - Vickery(Free agent) McBean & Astbury.

Delist - Hampson Maric Chaplin & McKenzie

Medium Sized:
Keepers - Grimes McIntosh Broad Grigg Deledio Lennon Markov Vlastuin Martin Townsend Menadue Cotchin.

Trade Bait - Batchelor Conca

Smalls:
Keepers - C.Ellis Drummond Castagna Yarran Houli Rioli Short

Trade Bait - Miles or Lambert B.Ellis Edwards

Delist - Morris Hunt Marcon

Some might look at that and say that there isn't much being offered, while others will no doubt raise some eyebrows at the names mentioned for trade bait but I don't think we need to cut too deeply like we're starting over again. I'd use some of the players that have some value about them to try and generate some much needed ammunition to head to the trade table and/or draft with. Outside Batchelor the rest of the players I have on the trade table would net us some real value either through picks inside the first 2-3 rounds of the draft or allowing us to pick up something we need more than what they bring i.e. Edwards or B.Ellis might help jag us a quality young ruck/kpd option.

I'm not saying they're the problem. I'm just saying we should sacrifice them to fill positions we need because they both have some value. We have a surplus of outside mids/HFFs - Deledio, B. Ellis, Menadue, Edwards, Lennon and Grigg. We also have one genuine inside mid in Miles, our ruckman is Hampson, our CHB is Astbury, our FF is Vickery. Do you see what I'm getting at here?

Can't sell your future though and reality there are a number of clubs like Geelong, North, GWS, even Hawks that think they are in the window we could get draft picks for mature players

Not selling our future at all. We would still have Vlastuin, Martin, C. Ellis, Rioli, Miles, McIntosh, Grimes, Menadue etc.

I'd be looking to trade in players in a similar age bracket to Ellis and Lennon as well.

I think you are unrealistic on how to do a list build

Coll, Geel, saints and GWS all missed finals and secured some BIG fish, me thinks it makes fa difference , it's $$$$ , term and being front of the queue rather than the end

It's funny people want to cut and cut regarding the list but when it comes to the crunch they're not so keen on cutting hard.

As for you query, did you not read where I said that by trading away some players with value we could snare ourselves a young ruck preferably one that is ready to go from 2017. If not I would put Griffiths in the ruck full time and elevate Soldo on the senior list as well and use them either in tandem or, with Hampson to remain on the list, play them with him while they develop in the role.
