They also have had the advantage of their kids being developed in a competition of lesser quality and therefore gaining alot of confidence. I believe there will be remarkable difference our player development once the VFL side becomes competitive.
Is that an advantage?

It does build confidence but the step up is much greater so they are at a disadvantage.

All about effectiveness, we are ineffective with our possessions as were the Cats tonight. Just about won every stat and still lost the game.

If you dont have the right cattle who have footy smarts and the necessary skill set then effective footy is always going to be difficult.

The Cats tonight and us for most of the season were guilty of making under pressure turnovers (we are also kings of the non pressure turnover) which will kill you every time against the better defence to attack transitioning sides and its especially the case at the frenetic pace of finals footy.

Whether the Swans use reaction speed as a measure or whatever they use to assess recruits we need to follow suit because they just seem to pump out these robotic style players who simply know what its all about rather then the deer in headlight sorts we seem to attract.
Sydney don't come across as the most effective team, neither do GWS or the Dogs. What they do come across as are teams that use pressure when they don't have the ball and quick direct ball movement when they do to keeps teams under constant pressure. Because there is always that pressure around the contest, they have learned to thrive in it so when finals roll around they are ready to compete.

It's not a shock to see the teams that have fallen by the wayside this year are the ones that try to pick their way through the pressure. Back in 2013 we were playing that move it on at all costs type of footy, but didn't have the defensive aspects right and got burnt. Then we moved away from the attacking direct footy to a more controlled style and have slowly unraveled to the point where our players are frozen when they should be attacking the game.

**** sydney their premierships are tainted with all the bullshit assistance they get

gws too

and gold coast when they do.

afl has screwed the old clubs big time
In the name of the dollar sign.
Gill must be giddy especially if GWS win.

AFL don't give two flying hoots about Richmond,we could rot for all they care.:(

If we seriously went after Mitchell, I don't see how Hawthorn could compete trade wise.
Pick 6 and Shane Edwards surely gets it done. Sydney could also throw in Nankervis and it would still be fair.

Hawthorn will be focusing on the JOM trade which will be difficult enough as is.

Just think we are in a really good trading position this year.

i believe it is a massive advantage as the step up between the tac and vfl is what is catching most kids out who arent yet ready for afl. The swans do it perfectly they come in and play a bit role at naefl level then a major role at naefl before they become bit players at afl level and then bonafide guns at afl. It wouldnt be the stupidest thing for a AFL club to send draftees to O&m , GFL league for games before playing them at vfl level.

I'd dare say that if the Hawks had a choice between a midfield fit bull or a broken down one they may decide to go with the fit one.

Anyone know what our cap room looks like? I assume we would have to throw overs at Mitchell for him to want to play for us, especially after he's about to play in a Grand Final. do we actually have room to pay Prestia and Mitchell? I suppose Conca and Vickery going would free it up a bit but not that much.

Lennon also goes, Chaplin retired plus the delistings. I think we will have the cap room comfortably.

Edit: When we re-sign Dusty, I think we will back load his contract to allow more room for this year and next.

I am pretty confident that we won't to worry about paying overs for any players who play in the flag winning team. Like at the end of the day it's laughable to suggest a team would let go a player who was part of their flag team 3 weeks after it won it. Having said that I am also super confident that the GWS will win the flag so that will have the Swans looking for reasons they didn't and this might cough up Mitchell. So in the end we pick up a dreg who his previous employer thought wasn't good enough in the big one as a gun for us. That's how ******* far we are from a flag. My 3 cents worth is if we pay big for a mid and we target a swan Zak Jones is the one I would be snapping up. ******* jet

It's laughable what the Gold Coast media are suggesting on the Prestia trade.

http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au...e/news-story/fe7f769ed4b1573a32efe6a1d583c1ae

“With Richmond ... I’m not sure they have the right player. They won’t and shouldn’t trade (Dustin) Martin so I’d be grabbing their first round draft pick and on-trading for a quality midfielder from another club.

“Prestia should command an upcoming player of ability and potential so I’d aim for Daniel Rioli. The alternative could be (Trent) Cotchin.”
Hahaha really ok... for that price they can keep Prestia

Do you think we're going to use this years first in the draft or try and get someone else with it?
Jungle drums are beating for Mitchell. Reckon we might trade pick 6 for two later first rounders and on trade one of them and player for him and hopefully Nankervis.
