Question for you, what do you see in Hartlet that I don't? That scenario is a disaster, out go pick 6 Ty and Lennon for a guy desperate to get to us and one who knocked us back last year but now wants our coin.

Our ace card with Prestia is he comes to us or goes to the draft. He has told them that. They have no choice but take our best offer which is looking more likely to be a player than pick six. Thus ain't the old Richmond, Balme is in charge of Dan Richos old role now, new direction, no stupid stuff. The Yarran clusterf*** should have been the eye opener our club needed.
A late first round is what most clubs would rate Hartletts worth. If Lennon doesn't want to play for the jumper then he can go in my opinion. So trading him away and our first for two solid mids seems our best option at the moment. We are crying out for midfield depth.

Everyone is placing a lot of faith in Balme. The same guy who oversaw the pies and let's be honest. Most of us have been hanging a fair amount of shit on them of late.

I don't see him as the great white hope that many do. A good pick up sure. Our savior? **** no
He was also at Collingwood Early 2000 when they made 2 grand finals then Geelong when they became a powerhouse. He was at Collingwood when they were in the peak of their hijacking the Malthouse era with figjam

He only spent two seasons there. Not much time to shape anything.

He didn't appoint their coach which we d all agree is their greatest millstone, their recruiting has been pretty bang on . Last coaching appt balmy was involved was Chris Scott, flag in first year . What were you saying again about savior ,,
Pies have sold the farm. Recruited for instant success yet their list is ******.

Scott could easily have been a fluke.

He didn't appoint Buckley but Buckley also didn't handle recruitment however Balme oversaw it.

Sure recruits are good but at what price ?

Trengove Pittard S.Gray Hombsch Young. Those 5 may not be top line talent but they are important to Port and will no doubt be wanting some extra coin next year to hang around and that's before any approaches to new players. So as I said they have the want and need to move on Hartlett if they can, unfortunately they backed themselves into a corner last year when they got spooked and signed him up on big money.
We will be fine to sign all of the players that you mentioned as well as wines.

Schulz and Carlile off our list has already freed up space. There are also rumoured to be 12 other senior listed players on the trade table besides Hartlett, including Lobbe who is also on good coin.

Any cap pressure we have, be it real or perceived, will be resolved with or without trading Hartlett.

I like, might need to be a 2nd rounder and Edwards for Hartlett, and we pay his whole salary.

I think that's overs for Hartlett.
Port are the ones shopping him around, they can't be asking for the world. They f'd up, not our issue.

hate them all
With free agency its a less of a risk. Although theres an element of luck regarding the quality of free agents available, this years crop is poor which is why Collingwood are throwing a big contract at Wells but the same contract their offering Wells might land you Motlop next year. Just got to be smart about it.

No denying that, but you can find someone to play second fiddle to Riewoldt later on in the draft.

Having one develop under Riewoldt doesn't help the team or Riewoldt. Having a midfield who can deliver him the ball on a regular basis and with some accuracy does help Riewoldt and the team as he will kick more goals.

Agreed.
this years crop has a lot of depth re: mids. it's talls where it is poor but good for mids

you can but history shows that outside the 1st rd your not getting anything decent, think Elton (pick 26?) & McBean (pick in the 30's)

I'd take their last 2 years of drafts over ours every day of the week , your second point is a bit lame , cmon you got more than that surely. Buckley is squarely the problem there, about the only good move was giving him a 12m contract rather than long term,,,,good move balmy

none of those are this year though, and selling this year they are selling HH when his value will be at its lowest

I think people are overplaying the desperation to sell card. this wont be a fire sale

No doubt it would improve the team quickly short term but it's not the way to build I don't believe.
If we shouldn't target a 26yo, then by what reasoning should we keep a 29yo (next year) Jack Riewoldt going forward? In my opinion, we either offload 30yo Deledio + 29yo Riewoldt for picks, or we keep both and aim for Top 4 over the coming 3 years (which means targeting the likes of Hartlett).

We are reluctant to trade in 26 year olds but when 28/29 year olds are already on our list, we have no problem keeping them. Clearly that's a contradiction of philosophy brought on by feelings of loyalty.

Reckon the AFL made that rule especially with Blair Hartley in mind? ;)

Massively unhappy. We should match it and either keep him on a reduced salary or force hawks for more.

KPP/Ruck are the most valuable commodity in the game and hawks have twice paid 18-20 for one previously.
jokes aside, I think the AFL knew without the cap on trading future picks, the comp would move to a world of contenders and feeder clubs, with the contenders constantly trading out their high picks for the quality players at other clubs
