I change my outlook every day it seems but currently based on rumours and players that I think we can actually a get a mix of this would satisfy me from trade and draft;

B: M.Broadbent, A.Oxley, A.McGrath
C: A.Swallow, L.Jong, J.Bowes, B.Scheer, J.William
R: J.Witts

Were after best 22 players.

So Litherland Howe O'Brien Hartung Langford are all 22-30 players
So NO DEAL

We've stayed we want 24-28 yr old midfielders
As we have 7 picks before 30
How many of those 7 picks would be needed for Bowes?
If the Hawks are only offering up mediocre players wouldn't you guys be better off with more picks and hitting the draft hard. You could really set yourself up for a few years time from this draft

I can only hope that O'Meara becomes your version of FIGJAM (but without the finals appearances). Hawthorn is a strange choice IMO, the're prime movers are all at the end of their tether and their second tier just aren't tested in those heavy lifting roles, they're bit players and support casts. Its a very steep slope down once you drop off being in contention and all it will take next year for them to miss the 8 entirely is for Mitchell and Lewis to have longer term injuries or continuing niggles IMO. Just look at Freo this year, there's plenty of teams on the way up, you don't need to be that far off to drop right down.

Surely the AFL will have to start looking at this whole non FA getting to name their club, we may as well make everyone a FA after their first contract the way it is going. Ridiculous

mine would be

Horlin Smith and Hartlett
Barlow or Jong and Broadbent
Whitecross

Mine

Jong, Broadbent, Barlow or CEY, Lyons

Hopefully there are players on the radar that are even better than this
That is a very nice list of five players. Exactly what we need and if, realistically, we grab 3 of them we are well in front of where we stand right now.

Personally I'd like to see him go to the PSD
But I've been known to cut off my nose to spite my face
I want this to be the ugliest most drawn out spiteful trade in AFL history
When airhead players and their slimeball manager/whisperers think they can just trample on everyone for their personal advancement I want the message sent
Make them think Essendon has a show, make them anxious, make them do backroom deals with Essendon/Hawthorn but make them sweat and work

it appears he stroked us hard all year, certainly given we offered him a reported 900k a year for 5 years recently, in retrospect that was crazy given his current status

anyone see this before seems like this deal has been done for a long time

So assuming he has known since March (which is generous), he has kept on going about his rehab and us sending him in for surgeries, all the while playing the card of 'oh I don't know I just want to get back to playing footy for the Suns this season' and stringing literally everyone at the club along and lying to them all, including Rocket who was confident he would re-sign throughout the year, all so he could put his feet up and waltz on into the best team in the competition for a reduced rate because he didn't end up proving he is over his injury.

What an absolute piece of work.

But didn't he say 'I have instructed my manager not to talk to any clubs' - Liar, Liar, pants (or knee) on fire

I was listening to the wireless yesterday and the lads on SENN were talking about this and were saying it's wrong and he stuffed the Suns about because it was obvious he was leaving with the Hawks his preferred destination..

Malthouse was on too and he's so against players who arnt free agents being able to choose the club they want to goto. Makes sense because what's the point of having FA if you can choose anyway...

But he suggested that if a player wants to leave a club they should go in a pool and let the bottom clubs have first pick at that particular player.

When Hawthorn offer up fringe 22 players for JOM we should negotiate with them like they did in Django Unchained (for the sake of good taste a replaced a certain word with 'fighter':

Calvin Candie (Hawthorn): Well, then, we got nothin’ more to talk about. You see, you wanna buy a beat-ass fighter from me, those are the beat-ass fighters I wanna sell, so.
Django (GC Suns): He don’t wanna buy the fighters you wanna sell. He wants the fighter you don’t wanna sell.
Calvin Candie: Well, I don’t sell the fighters I don’t wanna sell.
Dr. King Schultz (GC Suns): Well, you won’t sell your best. You won’t even sell your second best. But your third best, you don’t want to sell him either? But if I made you an offer so ridiculous you’d be forced to consider it, who knows what could happen?
Calvin Candie: And what do you consider ridiculous?
Dr. King Schultz: For a truly talented specimen, the right fighter?
[looking at Django]
Dr. King Schultz: How much would you say, Django?
Django: Twelve thousand dollars.
Calvin Candie: Gentlemen, you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.

Here's the Malthouse interview that you are talking about. Definitely worth a listen

Hardwick brought up the NFL model last year where if you finish top 4 you can't bring in any Free Agents

Should apply it to Players coming off contract and FAs for top 4 sides in the AFL

I agree best 22 players are the only one's you should be after but what youth have they actually exposed in the past 4-5 years that would be considered best 22 maybe Shiels and Bruest are the only two ? why would you want more picks though

At least the picks can be used to acquire players from other clubs that have a surplus of youths rather than settle for the Hawk scrubbers that they want to off load.

If they are considering Sicily in any trade I would hope that the club has a chance to talk to him as when I have heard him on the radio there is something NQR with that bloke and I would hope the Suns would get a chance to uncover this before including him in any deal.

Apologies for the intrusion. How does something like this look for an offseason plan? Assume you get pick 6 for Prestia.

GCS: 6, 8, JOM for 3, 16, 45, Barlow, Hartlett, Broadbent
HAW: 16, Hill, Litherland, TOB for JOM
FRE: 3, Barlow for 6, Hill, Litherland
POR: Hartlett, Broadbent, 45 for TOB, 8

I can't see ESS or BRI bidding on Bowes but CAR could and probably should. So, getting pick 3 to pair with 4 gets two picks before any Bowes bid matching. Would presume something like Ainsworth and McGrath. That means your new look future midfield is Bowes, Ainsworth, McGrath, Scheer, with Hartlett, Barlow, Broadbent offering 'protection' and leadership (the two POR players just turned 26). If you still want Jong and Witts, or any other player (Adam Oxley comes to mind), then use 16 and/or 20s picks. Don't need more draftees. Would only need 24+27 to match a Bowes bid by Carlton. Am sure you could pick up later picks if/when required for Scheer. Think there's also a 2/3 rounder academy player who's name escapes me. That's what 40 and 45 are for (that would match anything from 16).

Also still have picks 16, 21, 22 (24, 27, 40, 45 for matching purposes). Pick 16 for Jong+32 (saved in case for matching bid or even used in big trade above). Picks 21, 22 for Witts, Oxley, 43 (again saved for bid). So you end up with Ainsworth, McGrath, Bowes, Scheer, Hartlett, Barlow, Broadbent, Jong, Witts, Oxley, and the later academy kid. Of the 11 new players: 5 rookies (including 3 top-5), 5 in the 23-27 age bracket, and Barlow.

Otherwise, convince Carlton to make a really good offer to JOM. Then swap 8, JOM for 5, 23. Then swap 6, 27 to FRE for 3 (with a wink that you won't pick SPS/English with 3, 4, 5).
