Really? I reckon he'd have gotten in Tyson's way today.
Yeah I posted that in the first 15 minutes where Gawn was winning the taps but we couldnt get it out, we then went on and monstered them in clearances and I realised this midfield is going to dominate teams next year.

On ANB...I like him too, but if I'm an oppostion club he is one I'd ask about. I hope we can give him some assurance that there is a spot in the 22 next year if he works for it. Can we give him the midfield opportunities he needs?

Best 22? Unlikely. But surely he is first cab off the rank?

I dunno if you consider that most supporters got their preferred 22 wasn't the Hawks minus Hogan then I'm not sure who's spot he would take

The bottom 6 for arguments sake are Harmes, AVB, Pedo, Omac, Stretch and Oliver
Oliver is his like for Like as inside midfielder and he's better, Stretch is an outside player we need and AVB tackles and takes marks.. Harmes is being used in defence because he is tough and he takes on dangerous kicks , not a role ANB could play
The other 2 are keys
ANB is behind Oliver Jones Tyson and Viney and maybe battling with Kennedy to be back up to Garlett

In hindsight we got ripped the **** off for Viv Michie. Players that went after the pick 53 we traded for him (from memory): Hunt, Fantasia, Sicily, Langdon, Freeman, Sam Lloyd...probably others.

Obviously being slightly facetious but the point I'm trying to make is that at that stage in 2013 in seemed like a great trade because our midfield was shithouse and now we can see that he hasn't really gotten a game.

As rude as it is its still been important for depth I reckon, instead of Oliver getting drafted and being our best contested midfielder he has to come in an train harder than Viv, then work with him at VFL level which means he can develop instead of being one out as well before being selected ( even tho he was in the round 1 side) I think it's been good that our VFL side is winning because it means the young blokes who get picked to play AFL come in confident .. I cant think of anyone we have picked who hasn't been Allright first up. Big difference to when we first got Roos and he was just rotating out of confidence players in the 2s

I feel like after roughly 2AM AEST this board just turns into a shitfight between the two of us :P

Although we are kind of in agreeance lol, I dont think hes been a success and he will be delisted but the added depth to the club that Stretch and Hunt and ANB etc have to be better than to get a game has been helpful
The kids have to be better than top level VFL players to get a game, not just available

Yeah and tbh I wouldn't be too disappointed if Michie was best 22. Good player. I rate Newton about AFL level also.

My prediction for this trade period (if we're not the surprise suitor for Hurley) is making a play to get our 2016 first rounder that we traded to GC last year back.

Might seem silly, but i predicted part of what went down last year - both GC and GWS are going to have a surfeit of picks ongoing - too many picks and not enough list spots to use them. Which means theyre always going to look to bank future picks. Academy picks partially make first rounders worth more to us than them...

This puts us in the box seat. We're the only team to trade a future pick for a pick (others used them on players, tying up their choices) - meaning we can keep on trading future round ones as we have used 2 for the four year period already (I assume until both of those clubs see it as strengthening a rival) - or until we want to use the pick on the missing link player

Essentially what it could mean is that we get Weidemann for free (or a really long term loan - we have to pay him off at some time, but that could be years away).

I reckon Jason Taylor and others have read the future trading better than anyone else. And i suspect we'll keep in front - the traded pick will remain better than our following year ladder position (the 20% discount for academy picks will give us a bonus too).

And we'll use the pick on a gun outside kicker (HBF/HFF).

If this comes off (or was planned for) - Well played Demons.

I don't understand the desire for Hurley/May. Yeah, they're guns, but we'd have to give up so much in terms of picks/players and $$$ to get them, and with T and O Mac and Frost developing nicely, and Dunn and Garland as depth, I really don't think we need to sell the farm to get a KPD.

Yes it'd be nice, but we have greater needs for a more class midfielders and a forward/ruck imo.

Our kicking out of defense is still poor and T.Mac is yet to sign on.

If Tommy signs on and his disposal goes the way of Rance then we shouldn't bother getting another kpd but at the moment we should be looking at our options.

I think we only go for Hurley/May if Tmac leaves which is unlikely

Agree with the two posters above - but I think T Mac is almost a given to sign on. Yeah, our three KPDs aren't great kicks but I think the team's needs are greater elsewhere.

Paraphrasing Jonesy in the Herald Sun this morning, "his brother Oscar being at the club, being a part of our leadership group and the direction of the club as a whole I'm very confident he'll re-sign. Tom's just doing his due diligence as any player should"

You take most of that with a grain of salt though, he isnt gonna come out especially as captain and be like ' toms being a real campaigner here not signing, what a selfish prick'

I'd kind of love that if players did that a bit more in good humour. Seems like something Gawn would say.

100% and I am an eternal pessimist. But I read the due diligence part as CBA? Although we've had a lot of recent signings prior to the new CBA so maybe it means shit all

Who is his manager? It kind of seems like someone has encouraged Tom to hold off to hear offers and have a shot at getting his price up? Chances are he will stay but get more than originally offered though possibly less than he imagines is possible. I wish he would get on with it either way.
