If he is saying that publicly it is Essendon just trying to get other clubs interested so they get maximum value, otherwise there is no point putting it out through the media.

Which would be strange because it never works like that. The player picks a club he wants to go to and then a deal is struck, I can't ever remember a time where the player has agreed to go to a club based on the trade offer

Yeah, a more extreme case is Jaeger Omeara

GC want 2 first round picks because he was incredible in his first season and they took him in the mini draft
Yet no one outside is paying that because they point to his 2 years out of the game

Jaeger OMeara far more extreme case, insane potential but he has been out 2 years injured, which makes his long term getting on the park and staying there a much riskier comparison.

Whereas Salem missed less than a season from actual injury - okay so both hamstrings, but I understand the injuring other hamstring while recovering from the first isn't that uncommon.

The this season thing is an illness with v good recovery prognosis, so doesn't cast doubts about being injury prone long term. Obviously O'Meara is the greater talent, but Salem's injury record isn't in the same ballpark of risk at this stage, so I feel some reassurance at that.

I think one of the biggest drivers to the price a player can command isn't even their 'real' value but the effect of competition if your manager can identify a number of clubs who have an interest. The resulting competition drives the price, as it does with everything. And football players are literally unique - until we clone them then you can never find another one with the identical blend of properties.

Yeah I agree, although if he doesn't nominate us by early September I'd say someone has come in with an 11th hour offer and it is a finals club.

I thought melbourne showed interested in him and Bernie was happy in Adelaide but I think Sanderson told him it's best he went. Adelaide were definitely after picks because of the Tippett thing.

Don't think he was particularly happy about it originally. Was basically given a 'accept the trade or we'll play you in the 2's all next year.'

You missed my point, I wouldn't do the deal myself but trading a 26 year old very good HBF for a 22 year old who has missed the best part of 2 seasons isn't a crazy trade from a neutrals perspective

It would be crazy to trade Salem. He is so skilful and we need skilful players who can kick.

I think Topkent concern was with his injuries. But it's still early in his career though.

Salem has all the tools to be elite. No way should we consider trading him unless it's for something ridiculous like Fyfe or a top-10 pick.

The AFL have changed the draft bidding system again (didn't see that coming) so its more confusing than ever.

So out goes the theory of:
potentially delisted players = 100 6th round picks = 1st round pick
