So apparently Adam Saad has put off contract talks. This sounds strange but I'd be more keen to grab him than Prestia, as good as he is when fully fit.

Saad offers us that run and carry and skills from half-back, which means we can use Salem and Vince further up the ground.

How do we get him?

No first rounder this year, and not sure what players we have that might interest them.

On a serious note, if we draft anyone can it be people that keep their tongue in their mouth, having a look at the training day pictures its not a good look.

Surely it cant be hard, if they got a hit under the chin they could lose a inch or two.

Don't reckon we'd need to pay a huge amount for him. Certainly wouldn't break the bank like Prestia or Hurley would.

Nah he is one of GCs most important players
I would trade a first round draft pick for him he will be an out an out star one day no doubt about that

Saad could well require more than Prestia at the moment. He's one of the best small defenders in the league, on a par with Nev. Jetta might be better one on one and can play taller but Saad is more attacking and has electric pace.

I wouldn't give Jetta up for anything less than a first round pick, probably in the first half. I'm sure GC feel the same about Saad. They're known quantities as opposed to the draft.

Prestia hasn't been good in about two years and we have a surplus of midfielders with similar potential (plus output from a number of them). No point stacking our squad with the same type of player.
I couldn't agree more.
Ignoring his obvious connection to the Dees, I'd be more than happy if we weren't into him.

Crystal ball - we dont like picks in the 20s - high enough to have currency but not high enough to be a guarenteed player in the draft. So i think we'll trade this years second, and next years first, for one of GWS's 3 first rounders.

They'll make sure they have enough points for their academy kids, then off-load leftovers for a bank next year.

If they change the rules about pure pick swaps, watch gws throw in a fringe player to get around that rule.
2017 draft pool is amazing! i dont want to trade our 2017 first unless its for hurley

Definitely gone:
Terlich
JKH

In big trouble:
Dawes
M Jones
Max King
White
Michie

Thoughts?
King safe tall ruck takes years to develop and white maybe one more year and see

Could Gary Rohan be a good target for us? Inconsistent and injury prone but still only 24 and we're obviously light on for outside speed and class.

It might be a good time to be 'buying low' as long as it doesn't cost us too much.

Would prefer Jones, as I said in the other (less relevant) thread, if we're hunting Sydney. If we didn't have Melksham, Rohan would be a decent target. Can we afford to carry two of the same player though? Rohan is, amazingly, older than Jake.

That's incredible.

I think they are slightly different players, with Rohan obviously a lot more dynamic but less reliable than Milkshakes.

Great call on Jones. I wouldn't be surprised if he follows the Cam Guthrie path in going from a really solid negating defender to a really good midfield option too.

Personally i think Gary Rohan is an injury on legs and is overrated as ****. Never seen him string a number of games together for me to think "he's a player"

Comes from the draft era of: draft camp results>football ability.

Wouldnt give more than a fourth rounder up for him.

What is Melksham reliable for? Shitting fans? I feel like there's some kind of cosmic balance going on where we have to keep taking on bellends to make up for actually having top end talent coming through.

I feel like both have a lot to prove, and both have now missed a decent chunk of football. I like Rohan, but the worry for me is that our culture isn't yet at the stage where it can convert guys that have come in with an inconsistent past. He sticks out like a sore thumb at the Swans for that reason, and we'd want to be weary. We got very lucky that Vince decided to grow up when he got to the club, because just about everyone else we've recruited has been a steady contributor to their past team.

Pie in the sky stuff, but if we're ever going to try and get the Jones brothers together - this is the year. I have no doubt he'll come good one day.

Andrew Gaff out of contract at the end of the year, West Coast expected to have him signed up early this year which hasn't happened yet. The exact type of player we need and at 23 joining a young team on the rise that he was a die hard fan of growing up might interest him.

I can't really see us trading for players this year.

We've got to take 3 live picks to the draft and whilst Terlich is an obvious goner, I can't see who the others are. Not 100% sure we'd want to put a line through JKH yet, perhaps we'd move him to the rookie list.

It could be the case that Brisbane or the Gold Coast might be interested in Grimes if he comes for free.

Gold Coast have some academy points they'd be after for the two main prospects there. Could do one of those 'our second rounder and fourth rounder for their second rounder' kind of deals.

Unless someone is really keen on our players or wants out then I'd see our list probably the more stable then ever this trade period.

I know that's a pretty boring opinion!

FFS is there a player left in the comp that wasn't a die hard demons fan growing up? Why didn't we have a gazillion members 10 years ago?

Because only good people are Dees fans, and there aren't enough of those around

There was a stat out the other week about a major percentage of players on AFL lists coming from private schools.. Without sounding like a pompous prick, may have a little to do with it... Having said that, reckon of the players on our list you could name the Dee's supporters on one hand.. Harmes, Stretch ??? Pretty sure Viney was actually a hawthorn supporter

From an interview with Viney 2 years ago, doesn't say he barracked for the Dees, but it is certainly implied....

"......The son of Melbourne champion Todd, Jack always knew he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps.
“I grew up in the change-rooms so I’ve always had in the back of my mind… I wanted to play for the Melbourne Football Club,” he admits.

Think it'll be 2 live picks tbh. We will upgrade Wagner and possibly Michie. Can't see us drafting in the 4th round.

Assuming that noone major leaves, I don't think there will be much movement from us at all. May depend on what a Grimes nets us or if someone throws us a 3rd for Dawes.

I know right!

Striker475 I think the rules are that we have to use 3 live picks?

This sounds crazy but I reckon a team that might put a bit of value on Dawes is Hawthorn. If Roughhead can't come back then he'd be cheap insurance in case one of their existing forwards suffers a long term injury (I realise Dawes aint a tenth of the player but if he's cheap then could be a option to plug a hole ala Spangher). Problem is his currency is pretty low so might only get us something in the 50's.

Rookie upgrades count as live picks. You use your picks for them.
