Ok, you think an AFL footballer would prefer to be banned for being a drug cheat over having an injury.

I honestly didn't see that one coming. In fact I'm pretty amazed that anyone would even consider it as an option.

You just can't argue with that logic, you win.

No again you've added the drug cheat part to make it sound worse
The players have served there time get over it forget about the stigma of being a drug cheat it's a simple question
I said would the players prefer to miss a year banned but able to run and do weights everyday or miss with an ACL which could threaten their career and stop them running for months forcing them to lose condition and confidence in their body then I know what they would choose

True, this is the first time we've experienced this in the AFL so it's a massive unknown, which needs to be taken into account. Do you agree?

What we can do though is look at athletes from other sports who are in a similar situation. It's pretty rare for an athlete to return from their sport and improve on their earlier form, most come back and never get back to their best. Sure there's a handful that do but most don't.

You doubt this will be taken into account? At this stage I'm backing in the track record of our current list management to do due diligence including factors such as this. If they determine he's capable of returning to good football then I'm comfortable with that.

Yes, let's hope he can replicate what Lumumba and Dawes has been able to achieve at Melbourne

Nope, your original post said it all. The cheating part is absolutely relevant because that is exactly what has occurred in this situation.

He's spend a year travelling around Europe and holidaying .. i have no doubt they will come back better than they were last year next year
Ask any AFL would they rather miss a year banned or injured and they would say banned because those blokes can still train

Players would rather be banned for a year for taking performance enhancing drugs rather than missing games through injuries. Those are your words, not mine.

I have no argument at all to try and counter that type of logic - you win.

Did a quick best 22 for round 1 2017, assuming we land Hibberd.

FB: Jetta TMac Frost
HB: Melksham OMac Hibberd
C: Hunt Jones Salem
HF: Petracca Watts Kent
FF: Garlett Hogan Pedersen
FOLL: Gawn Tyson Viney
I/C: Vince Stretch Bugg Brayshaw

Trade bait (Keep if no takers): ANB Garland
Delist: Dawes Newton Grimes Terlich Matt Jones Michie (R) White (R) Max King (R)
Depth: Oliver Weideman Wagner Hulett Lumumba Trengove Dunn Spencer Mitch King

Certainly could make an argument for Oliver in there, but I think Stretch/Hunt/Salem are SUPER important to us in 2017. We really lack run and skill without them in the side. Have a funny feeling Pedersen might get the chop and they keep Dawes instead, but I hope not.

Or Melksham.

So their track record is ok with both hits and misses.

I don't rate Melksham but his best footy came under Goodwin so am trying to keep an open mind. They've also traded in BenKen, Frost and Tyson so I think they're ahead on the plus/minus ledger.

Anyway, assuming you don't have Biff's almanac providing your concrete knowledge that Hibberd will be a bust, we're just going to have to wait and see what he provides, if we do actually get him.

Hibberd is a risk, it may pay off but i'm not convinced that he'll instantly get back to his best and will be the saviour of our defense which seems to be the common opinion here. Especially for a 2nd round pick in a deep draft.

I think we could get some trade value for Dawes like a 4th rounder from a club like Brisbane. I also think White doesn't deserve to be delisted. He turned 20 this year and although he didn't show it on the weekend he actually has a really nice left boot. Give him another year and a few more AFL games and he will get up to the speed!

I ran into a Melbourne listed player at uni yesterday and one of the things I talked to him about was what Melbourne needs to trade in. He said we need another ruck. I asked him about our defense and getting Hibberd and he said we didn't need him because we have enough players like that (he listed Salem, Wagner, Grimes, Milk and Hunt). He flagged that we are really interested in Prestia (didn't know we still were), I asked him about whether we need more mids and he replied with 'you can never have too many mids'.
Lovely bloke, nice enough to have a chat with me while we walked in between classes. Thought you guys might find what he said interesting, I sure did.

Not sure why any melbourne listed player would be divulging trade info to people at university.

Should I delete it? Maybe it is a bit inappropriate to be on a public forum

Just out of curiosity have you even broken your leg or anything before? That shit hurts, rehab is painful as ****. Give me a year off suspended to go about travelling the world or spend time with family or pursue other interests any day.

I'm doubting the legitimacy of your post rather than a player being that dumb.

Who honestly cares about divulging trade info?

Does it actually affect anything?

They're pretty open to be honest. It's more about whether the player knows what he's on about.

Yeh exactly, I personally don't agree with a few things he said (I think our defense is our no.1 priority) but his point of really needing another ruck was something I hadn't really thought about.

I've had a pretty bad back injury, i would much prefer that over being found guilty of being a drug cheat.

The next AFL player you come across why don't you ask them what they would prefer

I totally agree with this.. after having 2 knee recos my body is shot and far out it is hard work trying to get back into shape.. by getting a year off for a ban I would of thought for seasoned players it would actually refresh their bodies and have them raring to go

Over forever being labeled a drug cheat? I reckon most elite athletes would rather cop the pain.

That's not the question I was asking tho Marc_Remillard has turned this into an argument over a technicality because he refuses to answer the question
Forget about being labeled a drug cheat, the question was would you rather miss a season in perfect health but unable to go to the club or miss a season with a severe injury which leaves you unable to train

The drug cheat stigma is irrelevant to the argument at present

Why don't you answer questions properly instead of arguing technicalities of wording in posts
