We don't need a mature age slow mid.

Sorry Michael, but it's a no for me dawg.
Would be in our best 22 adds depth if we get him cheap enough why wouldnt ya want him? Put Jones in VDB possie Barlow in middle and its a better team.. if ya havent noticed we are building a game plan around a slow ball winning midfield at centre bounces by having speed from off the square with this diamond defence

VDB is playing as a medium forward. Neither our captain nor Barlow can do that.

VDB is playing that role fantastically..

Oh don't get me wrong, VDB won't last past next year at AFL level if he is playing that role still. However Barlow doesn't improve the side. Oliver and Brayshaw will be a year older and a year fitter next year, and are going to push into the middle. I don't see the point of Barlow slowing down their progress for MAYBE a slight improvement, where we should be focusing our recruiting efforts on a forward/ruck, quality defenders and outside run.

We lose cause we have the shittest leadership group besides brisbane. Adding more youngsters is ok but we need a balance of older players. When someone said Barlow i thought **** that at first but thought about what he will bring. Oliver and Brayshaw can come in for the other fringe players our bottom 6 is still shit. If we get him for **** all im keen

Yeah I'm slowly coming around too it
Jones always goes hard but Vinces onfield leadership isn't great ..Viney tried his guts out in attack but maybe we do need another ball winning player who is responsible in defence as per my rant
I've never really bought the whole 'stops development of kids'
If the kids are good enough they'll play

Barlow goes missing as a forward as much as AVB. Would get for depth if free. As much as he can be an accumulator im the middle I've never thought him overly damaging.

He wouldn't be a free agent so he's not going to be free. Straight swap for Dawes etc. We need to make at least three picks at the draft and if we're trading away our second rounder for Hibberd it makes our third rounder our highest pick.

If we had more trade capital I'd want us to be having a look at Brad Crouch. Obviously everyone will throw the book at him but our midfield would be complete. Great inside/outside game, good pace, excellent kick of the footy. I rated him probably the number 1 young mid in the comp a few years back. Has dropped a bit with injury/form but will be genuine elite.

Yeah agree.
Has it all.
I don't know much about the details but he's a bit of an egg off field yeah?
Somehow of late, we seem to have a pretty reasonable bunch of blokes who don't seem to get into much trouble off field. Or just smart enough not to get caught.

Yup. Particularly the latter. Can also see Brisbane and Freo going for him. I think he ends up on ~500k and we get an end of 2nd rounder
Can't see Collingwood chasing him. We currently have a ridiculous amount of depth in that position, even with Scharenberg and Ramsay on our LTI list. With a fit squad we have about 8 players competing for a HBF position.

Last thing you guys want is another HBF who can't kick

Precisely. We've only just started to clean up our ball movement out of defence with the return of Reid, improvement from Sinclair and addition of Howe. If our recruiters decide to pick up another player who's a poor kick our fan base will likely riot!

Hasn't stopped our recruiters over the past decade. You could count the number of players who can reliably kick in Melbourne's list on 1 hand.

Go on then ;)
Watts (and even then he is somehwat prone to a shank), ummm, Jonesy is pretty good these days. I'm pretty comfortable with him kicking the ball. Actually Nev has been pretty good by foot this year but it'd be a stretch to call him reliable. Actually, that brings me to Stretch. He's a pretty good kick.

So Watts, Jones and Stretch. With the latter 2 only just scraping in.

I'm surprised and disappointed how poor Tysons decision making by foot is for a number 2 draft pick
We really need Salem to come on or else it's been a poor bit of business ( which was 100% worth the risk at the time)
His first year with us was pretty good and he looks nice when he kicks it, just flums it flat out!

Yeah I think Jonesy uses it pretty well.
Wattsy.
Stretch is very neat although he doesn't try anything too difficult and battles to kick it 40m.
Bernie a pretty good kick both sides so get him in although he's dropped off slightly this year.
Hogans kicking when he's up the ground is actually really good too.

He's a good kick for goal on the run, probably our best but in the midfield his decision making by foot is poor, he often picks a 50m option and puts it on someone's head who's quickly swamped
I also don't find him very creative by foot either

I like him because he's a top 10 pick :thumbsu: see I'm never letting that go.
