Ah yes ... a place where the "3 duds = 1 gun" trades are (still)born.

There is an old trader's saying that a fair deal leaves both parties feeling as if they've given up too much.

Something i wish the muppets on the main board would grasp. Someone should start a thread on here for "most outrageous proposed trade" from the main board.... I know already it'll be a Richmond fan.....

Brilliant idea!

The suggestion of Pick 3 for Hogan from this article: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-08-10/the-peoples-trade-period is right up there!

So, what positions are left to fill at the moment for next year?

I thought another tall defender half way through the year would be high on the list. O'mac played what I thought was his best game last night in the wet and is starting to show good signs. Add melksham and the strong possibility of Hibberd joining the list, I think our backline is shaping nicely.

Tall forwards are set along with the midfield.

A decent crumbing forward would be nice. Not sure what is happening with JKH. Garlett needs consistency in his game. Jetta imo is one of the best small defenders in the league and was missed when he was suspended. No other on melbournes list can fill his role.

Gawn getting injured next year would throw a spanner in the works. So maybe target a ruckman.

It's nice having a bit of depth for once and not lacking in one area of the ground.

We any chance of getting Pittard back to melbourne? signed in their good year now port playing shithouse. Free agent next year so could wait a year. Hunt Pittard double would be electric. Could move Hunt up to the wing not sure if our 2nd rounder would be enough but would rather Pittard over Hibberd

My priorities would be:
-Outside user
-Mobile forward who can take a mark and ruck at least 30% of a game (or 90% as sole ruck if needed). Think of an upgrade on Pedersen (who I still love)
-Agree re Jetta, while you don't need to move heaven and earth to get a player of his basic type we should be at least looking at developing someone to have his skills

Would we consider Cloke an upgrade on Pedo or Dawes? He can't ruck, so doesn't solve that problem, but I personally like the Wattsy experiment anyways. Not sure I would want him, but wondering what others think... I would probably prefer him over Vickery, considering we wouldn't have to give/pay as much

I think between Watts and Weideman we have the forward/pinch-hit ruck player covered going forward. We have Pedersen for depth and even Frost in an emergency.
We need another genuine ruck with Spencer our only realistic depth. Another small defender would be good too.
An improvement in foot skills across the board is probably our biggest need.

100% agree with this.

I think we're almost set up, the one thing we need is better skills moving the ball forward and another tall defender to keep one of Frost and OMac honest until they develop (likely O who will have a couple of years before his body is up to it.

But, we've got Melksham coming in, Salem hopefully to come in around the middle/half forward next year.

Both those guys have class and solid speed, Melksham more so with speed.

Our biggest needs are;

1. Ruck/forward (keep Watts either in the 50 or delivering into the 50, keep Gawn healthy)
2. KPD (Let OMac develop, he is promising but costs us goals every week)
3. Outside speed and skill, mainly speed as we've got some good users to come back in

We should loot one of Sydney's ruckmen, Naismith or Nankervis.

No ****ing way! End of

I was thinking if we get a forward ruck we are pushing the Weid back to the reserves for 2 years, because with Hogan and Watts + Weid/player x that's 3 tall forwards in the forward line at all times.

Outside class is easiest to ask for an hardest to get but with Salem and Melksham as possible additions they are both beautiful users I'm not sure we need to FIND anyone at all
What we do need is another marking defender which may well be hibberd, but we don't take enough marks yet in the D50 for me
Also if we could find a Puopolo type that lives on forward pressure I'd love that, we struggle for turnovers inside 50 still

My fantasy trade would be next year's first for Isaac Smith

Think we need a 70% forward 30% ruck player more than a genuine ruck. Watts in there is not a long term thing (Imagine him against Mumford ffs), and Weideman should go nowhere near the ruck for at least another two years.

Weideman would have to be resigned to Casey for the next two years then 'cause there's no way we can run a forward/ruck as well as Hogan, Watts and Weid.

First rounder for a 28yo that's not the difference between us and a flag? Not gonna happen.

Thought he was 25 for some reason, still he's the outside gun everyone talks about and no player is the 'difference'

Was pretty old when he was drafted.

I'd say someone like Hurley could very well elevate us 3-4 spots on the ladder.

Possibly, but then your talking about losing a future first and Salem and maybe more

I've re thought the Isaac Smith thing and yeah I would give up a first rounder if we got something small coming back the other way .. he is just about the best wingman in the competition

As much as I love Salem, that deal would be fair to Essendon IMO and would significantly upgrade our side.

I agree. Salem has been treading water for 2 seasons now. Hurley is a proven gun. Top 3 KPD in the comp. I wouldnt hesitate to have Salem in a trade deal to get him.
