Is this the first trade period ever where we haven't had any players actively trying to leave us?!

First in a while we haven't lost any best 22 players

2015 - Howe
2014 - Frawley
2013 - Sylvia (lol)
2012 - Rivers/Moloney
2011 - Scully
2010 - No-one
2009 - McLean

Ah. Better.

Collingwood seem to massively overestimate where their list is at. Think they believe they can bring in some players and seriously challenge in finals. I can't see it myself, but hey if it makes them feel better then they should go for it.
Someone needs to sit Collingwood down and run them through the James Hird and Michael Voss coaching stories.
Why is it taking them so long to realise that they have fallen for the club darling romance story that never eventuates?

All I can think re Pies in particular is that once you get away from the months of speculation and rumours of who is gettable - there is a far smaller market available then thought. Presumably C'wood have been putting out feelers for a far greater number of players, and Wells and Mayne were the available options.

For what its worth, I love Wells - think he's a great player (so long as on the park) and I probably rate what Mayne can bring more than some on BigFooty, though his best form hasn't been visible the past few years so looking like he might not get back there. But neither on their own or in combination seem a solution to the Pies issues, and I don't see this as icing for a flag or even likely to propel them to finals any more than not bringing in players. Maybe because they don't have a first round, plus their indifferent performances this year, they feel a need to look busy doing stuff - turning over their list etc. I dunno.
its the equivalent of the lazy maintenance man that always has a broom in his hand when the boss is around.

can you put a (lol) next to McLean also please. Absolute clown.

Weird thing is with we've indirectly ended up with Pedersen from the subsequent drafting / trades, and whilst giving up pick 11 for Pedersen sounds woeful we're still the winners...

I think the reason we don't want to give up this years second is that we need it to manoeuvre our way up the draft order. Considering we have no first rounder this year

How exactly would we work our way back into the 1st round tho? Trading Dunn and/or Dawes isn't going to do it.

It's smart trading to offer next years' 2nd to avoid not having a pick until the 3rd round, but I still doubt it'll happen.

Somehow getting 2 pick inside 35 so we can trade with some clubs who need points for academy players

The two issues with that.

How do we get another pick inside 35? The players we have who would have that value, we wouldn't want to lose, and they probably wouldn't want to leave.

And secondly, the Academy points loop hole is closed, so there won't be the sort of deals that we saw last year.

I was thinking Dunn and/or Garland + Pick 46 for Pick 30. I may be bias

As much as Dunn and Garland are both outside our best 22 now, no way I'd want to lose both this trade period. Our back up stocks for tall defenders are very thin. I'd like to see us pick a KPD as a rookie. Just as insurance for TMac/Omac and Frost.

Any interest in any of these free agents? I actually wouldn't mind offering Blair a two year deal to have greater pressure on Garlett, Kent etc.

I'd definitely give Wells, Bartel or Dal Santo a 1 year deal. We desperately lack experience and maturity. I'd also pounce at Boyd but he's going nowhere

Do something Melbourne?!?!?! What I'd do to see us delist a couple of players..

In a way it's frustrating. We sit back and watch the big clubs like Hawthorn, Geelong and Adelaide continue to top up their list and keep their list improving. I still cant believe Hawthorn can get O'Meara and Mitchell onto their list! If O'Meara comes good, it secures their midfield for the next 10 years! It is hard to sit back and not want to be a part of it. But it's also refreshing that no decent player wants out from our club.

I'm happy with Hibberd, and would be even better if we can use next years 2nd rounder on him. Will make this draft at least a little bit interesting for us. As it stands now, this trade and draft period will be extremely dull for the MFC. But I'm not sure that's a bad thing tbh..

Geelong's list is definitely not improving... the retirement of Enright cancels anything they could get from this period with the currency they have.

Hawks are similar... their KPPs are now average, rucks are crap, midfield needs that boost... and JO'M is an enormous risk (knee) to give up a 1st plus hefty change. There's only so far so many excellent flankers can take you.

They're grasping as one last flag before they plunge to the bottom... I think Geelong have missed their chance, and both clubs lists are likely to be awful in 2 or 3 years time.

We're in a good spot - our long suffering fans just need to keep being patient - as hard as it is!

I know that but like a worn down tree from all the wind and rain and hail it will eventually break from all the strain.
