Club has a definite underwhelming vibe about it. Has ever since the demise of the NSL.
I remember back in the day when we signed Mori from Adelaide, Horsley from Wollongong, Pondeljak from Olympic etc. Shaun Murphy came back from Sheffield United, even in the early A-League days Lazaridis came back when he was still a big name of sorts.
These days we tend to pick up ho-hum players from other A-League teams, guys who've moved overseas and failed and (like most teams) relatively unknown foreign players. Yorke, Del Piero, Kewell, Cahill all played in the A-League. These sort of guys aren't coming to Perth. Castro has been awesome but he was already 33 when he joined and a relative no name. Hopefully with Popovic in charge players will be more attracted to wanting to play for the club.
