The offseason is upon us. Free agency begun at 9 am AEDT this morning.
At this same time this is the deadline for clubs to submit qualifying offers to impending free agents. They have until 17 November to accept or reject and enter the open market.

The Baseball Writers' awards finalists were announced today.
http://m.mlb.com/news/article/260802304/2017-bbwaa-awards-finalists-named/
They will announced in the week beginning Monday 13 November.

Gold Glove awards will be announced tomorrow 8 November, with Silver Sluggers two days later.

This FA class is stronger than last year's but some teams may bide their time and keep a lid on spending to save up for next year's monster FA crop featuring Bryce Harper and Manny Machado.

As futile as it is, here are some random offseason predictions.
- Jake Arrieta, Yu Darvish, Eric Hosmer and JD Martinez will each get $150m+ contracts. Only Hosmer and Martinez will be worth it.
- Stanton goes to the Cardinals and depletes their farm system
- Manny Machado is traded the Yankees.

Shocking news. He would be a certain first ballot hall of famer if his back hadn't betrayed him

So heartbreaking. Only really started paying attention (casually at that) to the Phillies around the `10/11 mark, and that amazing rotation.

The Zoo with Roy stuff is basically the apex of sports fandom, the 'player you wanted to be' sentiments seem to be really on point. Left a huge legacy in Philly in just 4 seasons and that's pretty remarkable. And obviously it's the same in Toronto.

Yu Darvish to the Cubs?

A good winter would be signing 2-3 relievers (hell yes to Addison Reed being one) and making a trade for a cost-controlled SP. Something revolving around Ian Happ and a prospect of 2 perhaps but that doesn’t net you the type of guys we should be targeting (Archer, Stroman, DeGrom). The FO just might not be so willing to trade a guy like Schwarber, Baez or Russell for that to happen. FWIW, I am all for trading Schwarber at this stage.

And trading Jason Heyward quicker than he can say “But I made a bloody good speech in Game 7” should make anyone’s high priority list.

Yankees getting a manager anytime soon or not going to worry about it?
Would still be doing interviews I’d imagine. An organisation like that would have a short list you would think, wonder if Beltran is a sneaky chance although I’d suspect we would chase an experienced person for the role

He had his time, change was needed.
Guess we will find out if it was the correct move or not
Good luck with the lesser manager.

I can't believe any Yankee fan can truly believe they expected to be so close to a World Series this season.

Read my thoughts before and during the season. I honestly had us bottom or close to in the Division and didn’t expect to get anywhere near a World Series.
As I said we will have to wait and see how it pans out
