2017/18 off-season set up

Delistment Rule -Tyrone Vickery Case: Should cases like this fit the 0% salary paid delistment rule?

  • Yes - Most/all players retiring with year/s remaining on their AFL contract should be eligible

It won't let me see the player ratings.

If there is nowhere to look at them online, how can that be our system?
Not sure why you can't see it. It showing clearly on my PC and I can select players by Key Defender/Forward and Ruck. If you are on the phone looking at it it may not work.

I was planning on putting the GST classification against each player on the list page once the 2018 prospectus was released but we should be able to use that AFL Player Rating link as a guide until it is released.

Yes I'm on phone and I almost exclusively use the phone for AFL TM nowadays.

Some interesting players missing from there. Rampe's the one I always look for. Always plays on talls. I'd definitely call him a key back.

He's listed as a key defender in the 2017 Prospectus. They're usually pretty good with their player categories.

Oh and secondly, this is in the OP:

"6pm Saturday November 18: Opposition player bidding starts, all bids inactive, no limits on which and how many uncontracted players you can bid on"

Just to clarify it's only two at a time though yeah? That's just referring to over the course of the bidding period?
Just clarifying on this further, your bids during the inactive period still count on the maximum number of bids you can have on a player (3). You can just bid on as many different players as you like during this time.

Unless anyone has some serious objections, sausageroll and I propose that we temporarily co-manage the Port Adelaide team for the off-season until Russian returns. We will attempt to manage it fairly conservatively and mostly attempt to retain the current list by matching any bids we feel Russian would, as well as bid on own players. At some point we may also make opposition player bids but as mentioned the main aim will be to retain the list structure.

We feel this is the best way to keep the list in a solid position if/when Russian returns or if a new coach needs to take over at some point in the future while not providing an advantage to his or any other team as a result.

2018 off-season now open. Good luck to all and please be patient as sausageroll and I try to run this off-season for the first time. We encourage anyone to point out any mistakes you see in our updates/posts as well as any mistakes made by others in the bidding/trading process.

Well done lads

Here to help where required

Do you have a list of the 2017 prospectus kpp? Would be helpful in at least being a guide as to who the gst players will be in 2018.

I’ll try and get something together before trading starts.

Just on the Port list. Whenever a coach has been MIA I think they’ve been left alone including opposition bidding on their players. But it’s not looking likely that Russian will return anytime soon.
A long time ago it happened to the club I eventually took over, but in the 2015/16 off-season thread Russian temporarily managed the Mozzie Bites list.

There was a full coaching compliment for last off-season so 2015/16 is the last relevant off-season.

From the 2017 AFL Prospectus, the below players are those categorised at Key Defender, Key Forward and Ruck. Note that this does not mean they will be listed this way for 2018 but it can be used as a bit of a guide for trading/bidding purposes. I'll post this list on the off-season thread in one of the initial posts as well for reference.

As it sets a bit of a precedent I've put up a poll using the Tyrone Vickery example as a case study. Basically, for the Vickery case and all future cases do we relax how the 0% delistment rule has been applied in the past or do we only allow clear-cut cases eligible for the 0% salary delist as has been in the past.

Coaches, please vote and if you wish comment in this thread.

“Football has been a huge part of my life, but I don’t have the same passion for the game that I once did.

To me it comes under the terminate contract immediately section as hes lost motivation.

By opinion is biased however but it seems pretty clearcut.

My immediate thought was that it could be a 0%. Upon further thought however, I think it does set a precedent we may not want to follow. If Vickery was out of contract this season I think there'd be a decent chance he'd be delisted. If we want a clear cut rule, how about: If a player is contracted by an AFL club, played more than half of their games in the seniors in the current season and is delisted by their AFL club, THEN they get the 0%.

I don't think you can really trust the quote by Vickery. He's hardly going to say 'the club told me I'm s**t and they don't want me'.

The way I see it is, when I sign players who have question marks over them, I check their AFL contract to make sure I’m not signing someone for longer than they are actually contracted. Vickery was signed to play 2018, but has retired. If he was cut, you pay him out. He chose to leave, we can’t assume the Hawks told him to go

What if the player was injured for over half the season, then struggled for one reason or another in the second half of the season so retired with a year to go on his contract? He wouldn't qualify.

Also, if Vickery was out of contract it would be an entirely different situation. People retiring or being delisted while out of contract is not the same as someone retiring with a year to go on their contract.

I still think the most clear cut rule revolves purely on their contract status when they walk away from the game. If they still have another year or more to serve on their current contract they qualify.
The problem would come when a younger player coming out of contract decides he's going to walk away. If someone like Devon Smith had walked away because of a lack of motivation while out of AFL contract but under AFLTM contract how would we deal with that?

Devon Smith would be different IMO because he's a clear best 22 player whereas Vickery isn't.

I'm happy to go with the contract rule since that seems to be the majority decision. Like I said, I kinda did just want to offer an opposing side since the rule was so strict in the past.
