Obviously you are clearly fishing in the hope that Richmond fans take the bait and I won't.

However it was not a good crowd. North's season was not yet dead. Richmond's very much alive. North have hosted Richmond at the venue before significantly higher crowds and this 36K was disappointing. As recently as 2013 a 12th placed North hosted a 6th placed Richmond and drew 46K. this weekends crowd given the clubs were in almost identical ladder positions to 2013 was several thousand off any sensible predictions. It was a poor turnout. We can discuss the reasons but it was undeniably a poor turnout.
No fishing, merely an attempt to temper some lofty expectations.

Thirty-six thousand was right on the average for North v Richmond games at the venue. You picked out one match where the crowd greatly exceeded the average, as if that should be the norm. Not very reasonable.

I picked out a recent match where they were as near as possible to the current ladder placings. 6th v 12th as against 5th v 13th.

The vast majority of North V Richmond games at the Dome will have featured a Richmond outside the top 8. If you want some kind of "par" for this weekends attendance a sensible approach would be to assess all games with the Tigers in the top 8 and thus out and about. The figure will be significantly higher than 36K.

Poor crowd at Etihad nothing to do with Tigers. Not our home ground or home game. Shit stadium playing against a small club trying to cash in got exactly what it deserved. I'm just glad I was able to scan in with my 16 game membership and sit in a level 1 seat anyway. Tiger army will be out in force back at our home Saturday week v Swans.

Ticket prices put me off going. $60 odd for Level 1 behind goals. Nah. North tried to cash in big time on the Tiger train and it failed.
Didn't necessarily fail. I'm assuming the most or all of the top level were GA so the bulk of those that wanted to pay bargain basement prices would still have gone.

Until players and other staff will accept good intentions as payment for services there isn't a lot the average punter can do about it.

Props to the Dees, a lot of level 1 general admission seating for Queens Birthday!
Not trying to take every penny out of everyone attending the game and will ensure a fantastic atmosphere and look for the game.
If only more clubs did the same.

Melbourne have bugger all reserve seat holders so it's not that surprising. Take up of level reserve seating would likely be more indicative of higher presales and / or large membership then any attempts by the home club to provide general admission. I'm sure the Dees (like the Hawks, Tigers and Pies) would love to have larger take up on ground 1 seating for members

Was it just me or did it seem Collingwood had a really strong turnout at Domain Stadium... like more than normal?
Leaving the ground yesterday the crowd was about 50/50 - probably cause most of the Docker supporters left at the 20min mark of the last qtr.

It's a lot easier to get tickets to the Dockers game here in WA then the Eagles game.

MCG estimating 72k for Demons/Pies (probably on the mark) and 26k for Hawks/Suns.

Reckon Hawthorn would be delighted if they got that amount, especially as they couldn’t get 29k against the Eagles in Round 5. I know they’ve had a few wins since then but the Port game effectively snuffed out whatever finals chances and a game against a fairly anonymous Suns outfit doesn’t bring much appeal .

I would be happy with either or both.

Anything over 70K is a good QB crowd.
Yeah both predictions seem a bit optimistic. I think 65-70,000 for Queen's Birthday and low 20s for Hawthorn - Gold Coast.
QB has been remarkably consistent, with 12 of the 16 games falling within 11k of each other in the range roughly 60k-70k. Here's the list with the number of wins for both sides heading into the game:

upload_2017-6-6_9-39-26.png

Worth noting that in 2004-5 both games were near capacity due to the MCG renovations. 57k in 2004 and 65k in 2005 compares well with the ANZAC Day crowds of 57k and 70k for those years and suggests that both may have got well into the 70s with a complete MCG.

Not coincidentally 2004-2006 was the last time Melbourne had a decent season. In fact this year is the first since 2006 that both teams have at least 5 wins going into the match.

Weather aside, I'd suggest that 65k to be the minimum acceptable for this week.

If the weather is fine think they might get 75,000 fans this queens bday. You would think Melbourne fans will be out in force so say 30,000 of them will turn up will depend on how many Collingwood fans plus neutrals turn up. Collingwood beating freo will definitely boost the crowd over 70,000.

If the weather is fine on Monday it could nudge 80,000 I reckon the Hawks game will struggle to get 20,000 +
Queens bday forecast at this stage is sunny and 15. MCC members will be packed with Melbourne and Collingwood having the 1st and 3rd biggest MCC members and the afl members will be pretty full with Collingwood having the largest afl members. Maybe 80,000 might be on the cards but for this to happen you will need 45,000 plus Collingwood fans to turn up as the away team

$87 for premium level 2
And $60+ for level 1

Well done north for inflating ur prices to unrealistic levels, pricing families out.

AFL FANS ASSOCIATION:

Dynamic pricing in action...
North Melbourne has increased some reserved seat prices by $12 for tonight's game against Richmond at Etihad.

(North price chart attached)
The AFL and greedy clubs like North need to be very careful going down this track of slugging the football public for specific matches or they will go the way of the NRL and have crowds of sub 20,000.
The economy is not flash at the moment and people are watching their pennies very closely and wont pay over the top prices when its a lot cheaper to sit at home and watch on TV even if you pay for Foxtel.

Could've seen 80K+ if Collingwood was the home team. But Melbourne is always the home team so I'd say about 70-75K

We underestimate how difficult getting 80k is. Regardless of match-up it generally needs pretty exceptional circumstances. Being a public holiday definitely helps, but I think given the historical turn outs for the game and the fact that, whilst both teams are certainly in the hunt for finals and coming off wins, neither are really contending, anything over 75k would be a massive turnout.

Those prices were just insanity.

The Anzac eve game proves that 80000 is more than possible against A competitive Melbourne moving forward
