I'm always surprised more members don't go the 16 joke and away membership option, I always did as it wasn't that much more at all.

So for Collingwood the difference in just walk up access for GA to home games vs home and away is $155 which isn't too bad.

If you have a reserved seat the difference is an extra $330.

Having a punt here on the Round 23 fixture, taking into consideration current ladder positions, and importantly for Channel 7, ratings.

All sides in the top 8 as it stands playing Friday or Saturday (excluding WB)

Honestly, it all doesn't really matter with the pre-finals bye but if they are insistent on a floating fixture for the last round, this sort of approach will be taken.

Friday

Geelong v GWS (SS) 7:50 (7)
GWS as top of the ladder given Friday night for maximum rest.

Could theoretically be given the early Saturday slot, to make way for an Etihad game to be Friday night to avoid the Dogs playing Sunday BUT Channel 7 would want to broadcast the top of the table clash at Simonds, and potentially Stevie J's last game in Geelong.

Saturday

Essendon v Fremantle (ES) 1:45
Freo flying home

Port Adelaide v Gold Coast (AO) 2:10
Given 1:40 local time start

West Coast v Adelaide (DS) 4:40
given 2:40 local time start for Adelaide to fly home.

Richmond v St Kilda (MCG) 7:20 (7)
Should probably be played earlier in the day to give Richmond maximum rest, but ratings will dictate this is the Saturday night blockbuster.

Sydney v Carlton (SCG) 7:20
Sydney some chance of making the finals still

Sunday

Brisbane v North Melbourne (G) 1:10

North Melbourne given the early Sunday slot on the off chance they might be in contention for the finals and need to fly home early.

Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs (ES) 3:20 (7)
WB given Sunday slot due to the other Etihad game involving Freo who need to fly back to WA

Collingwood v Melbourne (MCG) 4:40
neither side travels and are small chances of making the finals

Thats the million dollar question

If (for example) north make more net profit selling one $80 level two ticket than they do two at $60, then the higher prices sacrificing attendance make sense. Norths job is to maximize revenue from the game, not fill the stadium so afl do a ripping trade on food and drink.

Clubs have to be smart about this however, because punters will only pay so much a premium
On the other hand, by doing a ripping trade on food and drink, the AFL will be more likely to improve the deal for tenant clubs. The prices North were charging for that game and their home Good Friday match are way over the top.

The Anzac eve game proves that 80000 is more than possible against A competitive Melbourne moving forward

Yes that is true. Melbourne's fan base is not as small as people make it out to be. Melbourne winning gets on ave 25-30,000 to it's home games at the g. Away game probably around 15-20,000. What helps them is having over 19,000 mcc members.

Jeez, know there's still bout 15 minutes til kickoff, but for a grand final rematch crowd is looking shocking
If you want to see a "shocking" crowd (Maybe 18- 20,000 at the SCG) switch over the NRL be lucky to be 7000 at Shark Park dont forget its been pouring in lovely sunny Sydney for the past two days and the soccer at AO pretty poor as well for our "national" team so much for all those predicting a sellout.

Crowd definitely picked up as the game has gone on and a fairly reasonable crowd as of now. Through the tv at least, sounds like a great atmosphere for what I'm assuming to be 25k

I was astounded and pleased by the turnout for that match, but I think the difference between a big crowd there versus a potential big crowd this Monday is that people had the day off the next day on Anzac Eve – people still have to turn around and go back to work the next day on QB.

The afternoon time factor equals that out, still home at more than a reasonable time.

That's in the bottom six (or thereabouts) SCG crowds since 2002.

Swans home crowds have held up very well this year but this seemed a match too far for their fans.

Has to be said a bit of a black mark for Thursday night footy in winter in Sydney at the very least.

Probably ground zero for the swans....pretty good health when your absolute worst crowd on a Thursday night at 3 and 7 after apparently 150 mls of rain is about what Sydney Fc get for a semi final....nrl gf replay in Cronulla got sub 8k tonight

Come on. Code wars thread was shut down for a reason. Quit this shit.

Poor crowd in Sydney tonight. 42k last year for a Thursday game in Sydney. Rain + form probably killed this one, sadly.

Weird response. Why would you congratulate the swans for one of their worst crowds in 15 years and then roll your eyes?

The wookie explicitly said that referencing other sports for benchmarking purposes is allowed on this thread. Both of the other codes I mentioned are very very contextually relevant - a near undefeated soccer team that plays next door and another gf replay in the same city on the same night

People need to stop being so sensitive.

Im with you it is relevent as a guide as to how the AFL is tracking BTW the soccer got only 29.000 which would disappointing for the FFA.

The biggest crowd for this weekend by far will be the soccer at the MCG Sat night at least 95,000.

Looking forward to see how the 3 matches rated last night.
With metro fta

Afl - 651 (187 Foxtel, 441 7/7 mate)
Nrl - 645 (235 f, 410 9/9 gem)
Socceroos 431 (179 f, 252 9 go)

Nrl almost certainly would win on regionals (288k), with none provided for the afl but no chance to hit 282 given the one sided match

I think this highlights the impact of one sided games, particularly where there are alternatives on offer like crucial World Cup qualifiers
