Not a shock. I mostly watched the last half of the soccer over the last quarter or so of the football on largely account of the one sidedness of the latter.

What I find weird is the lack of sports watching in Perth. Afl ratings were terrible on fta but they were probably more than the afl on stv combined with the other two games on both

Still both the NRL and AFL were a long way ahead the soccer overall which is what advertisers look at.
As an aside the soccer pitch looked swamped on the Adelaide Oval and the people at the old scoreboard end were a very long way from the play.I think the soccer pitch is a better fit at the G

Adelaide Oval is a shocking ground for Soccer. It's ok if your on the wings but the length of the ground is real problem if you are behind the goals. AFC regulations to have the Advertising hoardings 2m from the field of play does not help Oval Grounds for AFC sanctioned games. Surface looked mint though. Still a very fast surface.

95,569 at the soccer and as usual the G looked magnificent!
Looks like the only chance the MCG will get ever over the 100,000 mark for a football match is for AFL
GFs.
Very good crowd at the AO esp as the Saints wouldnt have that many fans there.

Perhaps the Brazil/Argentina took a chunk of mild AFL away; plus cricket tournament & French Open on Pay-Tv may have taken some from what was a dull match.

A broader issue related to that footy matches have become less entertaining in past few weeks (not uncommon during mid-season); two matches this round have not only been one-sided but pretty boring slogs.

I've always been an advocate of having a full weekend off instead of three weekend ruined by the byes. It's bad. Play a women's game in the week off or something - there has to be a better way.

The Thursday and fiday night matches have been extra ordinarily close matches this year so not surprising to have a couple of one sided matches

I like the idea of bringing in another team and having a team have the bye all year round.

A quick way to get to a 20 round season (19 rounds plus one rivalry round), which I think the AFL could pursue without to much of a loss of revenue.
Actually, just realised that wouldn't work.

So you'd be forced to have 19 rounds (or go to 22 rounds with three weeks of bunched byes like now).
