Ask and I shall (promptly) receive! Thanks again Wookie - and also bombersfan. The AFL would be fairly happy with the increased crowd average.
everything - crowds and ratings - is up in almost all segments. GWS doing ok, Gold Coast coming back, fairly even competition across the board. AFL will be stoked.

The difference being for the tigers home game it is a compulsory system, and it you don't do it, you don't get you're seat, this means that everyone that does it, has full intentions of attending. Creating the possibility for 1000s of more seats to be open to the general public.
Not to mention on level 1 not up on level 3

The balancing act here is you urge / force supporters to make an early call on whether they go or not which creates problems. This may work for one game a year, but history says as soon as you take steps to pigeon hole people into an allocated seat well in advance you end up forcing casual fans to say it's all too hard and create a barrier for them to go.

You also create an image of a 'closed' stadium that is against the very thing that makes the MCG draw bigger crowds pound for pound Vs Ethihad: You can decide on the day whether you and your mates want to go to the G and just turn up on the day with your mates and be guaranteed a seat sitting together. Granted this relates to members but still it creates a poor vibe. Any system that serves to allocate people to a seat well in advance of match day will likely discourage many others from going and feed further Ethihads reputation of being a more challenging, difficult, inflexible stadium for the casual fan(s) than the MCG. The outcome is usually more complaints and smaller crowds. One key reason why the MCG crowd for a match will usually exceed the Ethihad equivalent crowd for a given match.

In theory it makes sense and for one game it's probably ok.. But imagine the outcry if it were more on a regular basis?!

But this is doing the exact opposite to what you are saying, in fact it is helping the casual follower by opening up more seat selections from member no shows.

I hope this doesn't come across rude, as I ha Eno idea how old you are, but could age be a factor, I think younger fans would be much more open to a system like this then older.

If there's ever been an example of the MCG getting their prediction wrong it's this one... Surely it must draw over 50,000. The Swans will have 10-15K if their mob, it's the only MCG fixture this weekend, Tigers flying, sunny day, good time slot..

Notwithstanding Richmonds drawing history against interstate sides, anything under 50,000 in my view will be a disappointment. I think the MCG in this instance will be incorrect. It's a 50,000+ game for sure.
I agree.

Frankly the Tigers history of drawing V inter staters is irrelevant to this weekend.

How often have we been as high on the ladder as we now are? How often playing the biggest drawing inter state team? How often have both been in some form?

History may be irrelevant. this should and i think will draw 50,000.

Fantastic crowd in Perth for Thursday night footy. Should be given 2-3 Thursday games next season with the new stadium.

EDIT: 35,719. So good.
A decent crowd in spite of the time slot, not because of it. The same game on a weekend would be close to if not more than 40k.

Its not very often West Coast games get 40k plus at home games whatever time they play.
Ok, my point still stands that Thursday nights only hurt the crowd, not bolster it. A 6:10PM start with work the next day is a huge deterrent for many, it's really only testament to their huge fan base that they got 35k, which is well down on their season average. I do understand it's all about the TV ratings though, which is all that really matters especially since WC sell all their seats anyway.

Then its a very good crowd going by all the negatives All the other football codes in Australia would give their right arm for a crowd that size for a H&A match any day of the week.

Always thought it would be about that. Saints had a very poor previous three matches and despite the gushing about Brad Scott from the media, the Roos have had a grim year.

That North/Freo match at Docklands in a few weeks might get less than their Gold Coast match did if they put in more performances like that.
