Fogarty and Dow are my preferences. Both excellent kicks. Big guys. Versatile. Pav/mundy replacements.
Dow at 2 and Fogarty at 5 would be my preference. I would be stoked if that happened.

I think Dow will be the best Mid in time from the draft with his ability of inside strength, and speed, together with his ability to hit the score board.

Fogarty would just be too good a player to not get at 5. Last summer he grew 5 cm... so all this Rubbish about being a man child last year is just that.. he would have been 187cm now he is 192cm May grow a bit more. Obviously likes the gym, but probably needs to be advised how to work the weights better. A professional environment will help with that. His skills and balance off both sides of his body are v v good.

I'm just glad that the other 3 clubs with picks in the top 5 happen to be ones with much less well funded scouting and recruitment groups.

- 94 kilos ain't overweight for a 192cm bloke.

- Do you suppose the 'agile and quick' players weighing 70-80 kilos will lose anything when they get themselves to afl playing weight in 2-3 years time?

- What is reflex speed????

- 1 How do you suppose his agility will go if he trims a few kilos over the preseason?

- 2 What do you suppose is easier, losing or gaining weight in an elite environment?

- 3 Name any player in this draft with evasive skills equal to Fogarty.

- 4 Name any player in this draft with a better non preferred foot.

5 Dude could play a similar role to Sam Mitchell imo but with more versatility to his game due to his size.
**

5 Yes I agree.** I like him as more than a forward and that stable hang around inside (he prefers back and is very good at reading the play too).

1 I think he will get better with fitness....he is very camparable to pav who at the same age was 92 kg when very fit. Pav finished career close to 100kg.

2 If Darcy can get some of the excess back into muscle he'll be okay. In Darcy's case it will be easy for him to lose a few kilo initially before probably putting it back on (I understand he only went back into full training a few weeks out from the combine).
2a If you are already very fit it is always harder to lose weight unless there is a health issue - but I think you may know far more than I on the subject.
3 Immediate player to come to mind was Coffield, who I think Fogarty has more upside if all okay with him fitness etc. Coffield as had a very good uninterupted year if Im not mistaken and that makes a big difference to how one looks when playing.
4. Had to go looking for equal both sides...just to qualify though, Darcy kicking late in 2017 was not so good and there was a reason for that. One of his interviews explains why. Actually there are quite a few good on both sides (by hand and foot). To name a couple -Higgins very good (is better than Fogarty but not distance wise), Stephenson is okay too.

It was to be expected given his year. Reflex speed, or other names for it, i think are now partially covered with the yo yo test and reaction time test. The clean hands handball test (I refer to as reflex testing) was quite good for assessing reflex speed but was scrapped after last year.

Finish with a question for you Why should'nt we draft Fogarty, Rayner LDU Dow, Stephenson, Cerra, what are their observable risk factors?

I'M already convinced that they are all suitable - so I try and find the 'why they might not be'.

Disagree about Pav. Like most young footballers, Pav followed other players as role models more than he followed a club in a passionate tribal way, which is how Naughton (and very few others) follows your club, based on The West article this week
This one didn't turn out too bad Clem...

The area of our list where we most need support is midfield in my opinion closely followed by forward line. Our defense was under pressure last season as a result of our midfield not being good enough, and our backline being young and inexperienced due to a massive restructure. The restructure will continue with the losses of both MJ and Spurr in the coming 1-2 years, however the 2019 components look great to me;

Hughes Hamling Logue
Wilson Pearce Ryan

Cox and Blakely provide decent depth and versatility while Nyhuis and Duman provide emerging depth. I think that defense will meld nicely.

I do anticipate drafting another KPD to the list of someone is available at a decent price late in the draft but I really don't want to use a second top 10 pick on a defender.

In our midfield we have lost both size, contested ball winning and goal kicking over the recent season I think. It is an AFL truism that games are won and lost in the midfield, and this midfield is strong in the midfield, and there is diversity in the types available. If we invest in the midfield we will give ourselves the best chance of building a dominant team.

In addition, one of those midfield types doubles as a forward, and while Fogarty may not become a true KPF, he has actually played in that role, unlike Naughton who at 2 cms taller looms as the most likely "other" tall. The only downside to Fogarty for me is that we are flush with not quite KPF size players, so if he doesn't grow any more than he is now he won't be the ideal height. But I thinking his footballing prowess is in another stratosphere compare to Kersten.

Clearly these discussions are doomed to go round and round for another month.

Would you prefer a Lever / Rance / McGovern at 5, or a Dangerfield / Fyfe / Martin? That's the effective conversation here
Not necessarily. we don't know how those guys in the top 5 are going to turn out. Naughton looks a sure bet. You can't teach the way he reads the play and intercepts.
If it was a sure thing tow of the top 5 are going to be elite then yes but are any of them in that class? Been plenty of highly rated mids who turn out pretty average in the big time. Just saying I wouldn't be upset if we took the mid we rate highest and what looks like a sure thing key defender.
If we are sure Alex Pearce is over breaking bones every 5 minutes its a different story.

The only people suggesting Naughton goes at #6 are the journo's who need some clickbait

Most mock drafts have him later, they only want us to grab him because he supports Collingwood and they have # 6. It's a pathetic argument on their part.

If any club recognise him as their priority he will go anywhere in the 1st round, including us.

POS: Half-forward, Ht 189cm, Wt 76kg, DOB 15/1/1999
From Eastern Ranges/Vic Metro
September ranking: 5

Stephenson highlighted his pace at the Combine, running 2.95 seconds in the 20-metre sprint. Anyone who has seen him play would have known that, though. However, it was his very good endurance results – level 21.8 in the Yo-Yo test and a 6:21 minute 2km time trial – which probably meant more. Stephenson was one of the best performed players in the second half of the season, successfully moving into the midfield after starting the year in his more customary forward role. He finished the season averaging 23 disposals in 15 games for the Ranges, and is an exciting player who can thrill.

All the talk of Naughton being rated too early for us to use #5 would evaporate if he is taken at #6.
and then come back again if anyone #7 and under becomes a superstar. I actually think he'd be a great fit for Collingwood. They have like 1 tall on their entire list.
