I think ‘lazy’ is the wrong term. IMO, compared to most other draftees, it would appear Rayner has got by on his pure talent alone whereas someone like a Brayshaw, Dow or Stephenson are so dedicated and focused on maximising their potential by doing the extra running and extra training and watching their diet.

It’s the old saying “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” Rayner looks to be the most gifted footballer of this draft, the question is does his work ethic and attitude change once he’s in an AFL environment or does he just continue to cruise?
Yes and so when he trains at afl level he'll reach his maximum ability. Then we'll see just how good he is.

Maybe he will (e.g. Walters), or maybe he won't (e.g. Sylvia, Sampi, etc). But there's no guarantees that he will just automatically flip the switch with his training. Just like there's no guarantees UDL/Dow/Cerra/Brayshaw won't turn out like Toumpas or O'Rourke.

End of the day, it's going to come down to pot luck. I hope our dart throwing is at Phil "The Power" Taylor levels.

Is that the guy who looks like Brett Lee with the bogan dialled up to 11?

I think Freo has struggled with kicking skills for long enough. The change in our game plan from the high pressure/average skills of 2013-2015 glory days into a more attacking Hawthorn style of game plan (which has failed miserably) surely has a lot to do with our lack of kicking skills compared to the elite Hawks. Maybe we'll find pick 2 and 5 will be on the most skillful mids available. I guess that makes Brayshaw and Dow/Cerra a realistic option. It's a shame becuase I do like Stephenson but I'm thinking his questionable kicking will rule him out

First time poster here I have been reading the forums for a while now and decided to chime in. Ever since I saw the Hunter Clark tomorrow's heroes and they had a snippet of LDU talking he mentions they have been best friends for a long time....I'm thinking if we got LDU with pick 2 we may reach for Clark at 5. Seems like a Freo-esque curve ball draft.
I think Hunter Clark is a top 10 player. He's the only highly rated draft prospect that made top 10 in the kicking test at the combine. Good side step and can shrug a tackle. I wouldn't be devastated if he was taken at 5. Plays like a more skillful Blakely

A more skillful Blakely wins a brownlow (he might anyway). If that is the case I am all for that. Haven't watched much of Clark because I didn't think he was in our mix.

Rayner is the most talented and go home factor out of the top 3/5 with the least work ethic.

There's maybes with any 17 year old kid

Categorising him with Sampi is silly

I would attach the highlights video from Draft Machine but I don't know how! It takes a few minutes of watching to pick whether he's naturally left or right footed. I would also attach a GIF of the Old El Paso girl saying 'why not have both' but I don't know how to do that either... :(

Where is the Clark rumour coming from? I don't see why we'd reach for him when there will be far better options available. I think his kicking is very overrated. He is/was a half back so is it the good 'ol comparing the kick of a half back in a paddock of space versus a midfielder surrounded by opponents? I think he'll probably go top 10, top 15 at worst but he's not top 5 material imo.

I must say I've not watched his package before because I didn't think we'd even look at him.

I actually sat up in my seat 3 or four times watching that.
Was like "Holy shit, how'd he do that?"

http://www.fremantlefc.com.au/news/2017-10-30/draft-prospects-hunter-clark
"The 18-year-old showed he can play in the midfield at under-18 level, but there still remains some doubt for clubs on whether he can do that in the AFL, particularly as he didn't get a chance to do it in the under-18 carnival. He doesn't have a huge tank and hasn't recorded elite levels in the beep test, and although he's relatively smooth, he doesn't have that breakaway pace that other players possess."

Dunno he seemed to be able to get out of the congestion ok to me

Looked good in the draft machine highlights. Knows his way around congestion

I’ve also liked the look of Hunter Clark, just thought he seemed a reach at 5.
His kicking off either peg is elite and he is ultra competitive.
Since two months ago I’ve been into Brayshaw and Fogarty.
Dow and LDU I would also be more than happy with.
Depending how it all plays out if we do reach for a Hunter Clark the club is really addressing the skill and disposal efficiency issues we have had for so long.
This year will set up our club for ten years, and I can’t see us getting it wrong with the top 5-7 being so even.
Trust the club to fill the needs going forward.

I'd be happy with LDU/Brayshaw. or Fogarty

If we could grab a Miller or Krueger at 42 it would be handy
Very high probability of UDL & Brayshaw

Brissie - Rayner
Freo - UDL
Blues - Dow
Norf - Stephenson
Freo - Brayshaw

We must take Rayner though if he is there at #2

I like this but If brayshaw goes before then and it’s between Stephenson,Fogarty and Possibly Cerra and Naughton. Hope we take Fogarty
