I would say Brisbane has indicated to Freo who they will take and Freo knows who we will get. The top 10 is pretty straight forward to the recruiting teams isn’t it ? It’s after the top 10 things flip flop around. The top 5 is pretty even though so I guess it’s hard to decide

If they’ve told us that would be hard to believe, but I hope you’re right.
Knowing who they would get at 1 will enable us to manipulate our picks 2 and 5.
Brisbane would really have nothing to lose by making pick 1 known to us, this would make pick 2 the most pivotal pick - far more influential than pick 1.
I reckon if Brisbane take Brayshaw at 1 there will be a really long pause and consideration by us at pick 2.

Hunter Clark is a very good player, wouldn't surprise if he ends up better than some of those considered 'above' him.

I still don't think we take Rayner. I've never thought of him as the clear cut best player in the draft, reminds me of Brisbane's last #1 pick. I think he could be another who never realises his full potential. Although I expect Brisbane to take him, and pick up his Jets teammate in Fogarty at #15. The smart money would have to be on LDU/Dow at #2, and Cerra/Brayshaw at #5.

My current thoughts are...

1. Brisbane - Cam Rayner
2. Fremantle - Luke Davies Uniacke
3. Carlton - Paddy Dow
4. North Melbourne - Jaidyn Stephenson
5. Fremantle - Andrew Brayshaw
6. Collingwood - Aaron Naughton
7. St Kilda - Adam Cerra
8. St Kilda - Darcy Fogarty
9. Western Bulldogs - Nathan Murphy
10. Carlton - Nick Coffield
11. GWS - Oscar Allen
12. West Coast - Hunter Clark
13. Adelaide - Ed Richards
14. Sydney - Aidan Bonar
15. Brisbane - Lachlan Fogarty
16. Western Bulldogs - Jack Higgins
17. Richmond - Jarrod Brander
18. Brisbane - Jack Petruccelle
19. Gold Coast - Zac Bailey
20. Richmond - Lochie O'Brien

North and Collingwood are the wildcards in the first round. North could go any of Stephenson, Cerra, Brayshaw or Fogarty - assuming the top 3 is what I have it as. And Collingwood would have a big call between Naughton and whichever of the top 5 midfielders falls to them.

Brisbane recruiter was just on SEN. Said they'll be going for a versatile midfielder with pick 1. Safe to say that hint is as easy as A, B, C (or LDU in this case)

On SM-N920I using BigFooty.com mobile app
"Stephen Conole just on SEN-

1) 4 names in the mix for pick 1 with 2 slightly in front.
2) Cameron Rayner looked sluggish in the 2k trial, hes had injuries and hasn't had a good training block, I'm sure when he gets into the AFL system his endurance will improve, how much is the question. We'll sit down and have a chat with Cam before draft night.
3) We have rated Andrew Brayshaw right up near the top from the start of the season, he is not a late riser in our view.
4) We'll be looking to build depth and variety through the midfield with picks 15 and 18 with 2 academy boys coming in later to fill out a couple of key position spots.

Conole was very upbeat and verging on excited when discussing Brayshaw, I got a strong vibe that we will be taking Brayshaw."

So much for my theory that Brayshaw at pick 1 was just talk!

Still - thats an overly conservative approach in my opinion and massively assists us in securing LDU and then one of Dow/Cerra/Rayner or perhaps Fogarty with 5. We’d have to be happy with that.

Let’s see what it looks like if we lock Brissie in for Brayshaw

1: Brayshaw
2: LDU or Dow.... probably LDU a bit more polish
3: Carlton will probably go Rayner!
4:NM Dow, Cerra, Stephenson gee probably Dow as the slider
5: Interesting options here for Freo, Cerra or D Fogs, a few people with more cred’s than me keep saying Cerra, but I like D Fog!

Is that the guy who looks like Brett Lee with the bogan dialled up to 11?
Nah, thats the Aussie bloke. Phil Taylor, without looking it up, is something like a 6 time world champion. His ability to perform under pressure is legendary and something that Chris Mayne could only dream of.

1. Brayshaw
2. UDL
3. Cerra
4. Dow
5. Rayner

In all seriousness though, add Fogarty to those names and I'll be pretty happy with any 2. Although still not convinced on Cerra.
Imagine LDU, Fogarty rotating with Fyfe, Mundy, Blakey, almost feel sorry for the opposition. How the hell do you
contain that many guys with so much height, weight?
The calibre of class, style you know will stand up in finals, midfield and forward just on sheer determination will
create nightmare's.

I think our 3 preferences are LDU, Brayshaw and Cerra.

Pretty confident no matter how the cards get dealt we will get 2 of them.

Carlton almost certainly go Rayner and North Stephenson.

Why would Brissie tell us or anyone for that matter who they are taking @ #1

Surely they leave it until the last minute to confuse the other teams as much as possible
What do they gain by confusing other clubs they have pick one and leaving it to the last minute to choose who they want would just confuse themself lol. Externally they arnt going to blabber it out to the media but club to club they would have recruiters at all hot prospect games and know what’s going on. All it takes a phone call so who you guys got so we can decide
