Lions draft thread.A Collingwood poster said,100% that the lions will either pick Brayshaw or Rayner.

UDL at pick 2 to us will make my Friday afternoon
Those are the 2 I've heard are slightly ahead of Dow and LDU.

Personally I'd be happiest if they took Rayner.

If they took Brayshaw that would throw a spanner in the works.

What's wrong with Naughton
Nothing wrong with Naughton or Brander. I believe that the top 5-6 standout are a level above the rest and all are midfielders. Stephenson is part of that 6 but his heart thing has clouded that a little.

Naughton will be a long term player and a very good one at that. He sounds like he is willing Collingwood to take him. The Age ran an article yesterday/Friday that broke up the lists by position. Collingwood had two KPD players - one I had never even heard of. Freo had heaps of KPD and that didn’t even incl. Cox who was listed with the KPF.

As such Collingwood may reach (only slightly) to pick Naughton but for us we need to go the the best two available at 2 and 5 and both (my opinion only) will be midfielders.

I am not sure you can compare rieldwolt /A.Rance with Martin, crotchin in term of talent . They all around the same level but contribute evenly across forward, mid , Defense .

I rewatched some Freo games during the week. It's no surprise that our forwardline was the main weakness. Picking 2 'pure midfielders' would be nice, but using a pick on a mid/forward would be ideal. I think we need to get one of Rayner/Stephenson/Fog to add some firepower, and an LDU/Dow/Brayshaw for some more F50 entries
I agree. Unless we don't rate them, pick 1 pure mid, 1 forward/ mid makes perfect sense

I changed my votes Ldu and brayshaw from ldu and Fogarty. It could be just the hype around brayshaw got to me but I guess we will soon find out. Happy with Fogarty and Rayner if either of ldu and brayshaw gone though followed by Dow

So you went from having;
1 mid + 1 forward/mid (LDU and Fogarty)
to
2 pure mids (LDU and Brayshaw)
but would be happy with
2 forward/mids (Fogarty and Rayner)

How would you feel about Haynes and Brander?

For what my opinion is worth, the forward/mid option is the gutsy move, and as well as Fogarty and Rayner, Stephenson needs to be considered. With a battery of rolling forward/mids we could begin to manufacture a structure that only requires a mug KPF to be a target, compete and get the ball to ground. I am thinking we can do that easily with Cox, Apeness, Strnadica or Taberner. But no harm drafting Kruger or Miller (my preferred).

For quality, a swarming group of Fyfe, Bennell, Walters, Rayner/Stephenson/Fogarty would be a nightmare.

I don't think it's just necessarily our forwards. It's our style and system. Against Essendon where we wheeled and played on our forwards got space and we kicked some goals.

We have mobile forwards. We need to play a mobile faster paced brand.

2 pure mids may release Fyfe forward, but still no good if we move the ball slowly and plonk it on his head.

Personally I'm for 2 pure mids.

The thing about Fogarty is that he is the same height as Pavlich and with a couple of years of physical maturation and gym work could end up with a similar overall physique. So he could end up being that "mug KPF" himself. Or the next contested ball beast like Fyfe, or a genuine swingman/utility (I think the most impressive youtube video of have seem of him was when he was sent to the backline in an U18 game. But all I know of him is what I have seen on youtube.)

Footy Prophet mock draft has us with Callum Coleman-Jones at pick 42. Yeah dunno. Can't see both him and Sean Darcy playing in the same squad together, so why spend our 3rd pick in the draft on him. Still keen on Krueger, McCartin or even Worpel (as he was still available at that time...)

Ben Miller in front of them all imo and may be available at 60 the way it's going. McPherson still there too.
