I hope we're talking to the top potential draftees again - I want them to find out who actually wants to come here out of the top end. I don't want Pick 2 / 5 being wasted on sookie lalas.
Why not? A sooky lala just landed us pick 2. Imagine what a sooky lala taken at pick 2 will land us.

Best to get Vics if no WA talent at that level. We'll have more clubs available to trade with and drive up price. And then there is always the possibility of using sooky lala 2 or 5 or both in any future Hogan trade...

Assuming the following:
1) That guff from hack about Hayes was untrue.
2) The rumors around big footy we don't rate Brander are right.
3) The general talk of use rating top prospects approximately equally is also right.

I think we will want one of the picks to one of the top 7 that can play half forward as well as on ball (Ryaner/Stephenson/Fogarty)

If LDU goes 1 then we take Rayner and 5 will be one of Dow / Cerra
Rayner goes 1 we take LDU and and 5 will be one Stephenson / Fogarty

Was reflecting just now and wondering whether a "swing for the best Vic mid at 2" and then "over reach for Naughton at 5" might not be a balanced strategy that could deliver the most return for the least risk.

And then you just think go for your lives with the best non WA mids x 2. We should focus on powerful inside types first and foremost.

  • 2 year mandatory contract up front. Sign them up to a one year extension in the first year.
  • Then we've got them through the 2020 season - during which we should be having a tilt.
  • Few players would leave a club in their window, and even if they did - we have the best trade leverage possible

I'm liking Higgins now that we have two top picks. We are pretty strong around the ball and don't need too many more only inside mid types. Higgins looks like a footballer and is a perfect fit at half forward for us. On team balance I think he's the logical pick if we go Fogarty/Rayner/ Davies-Uniacke.

Team Fogarty and Higgins.

Everyday I think I know who I want but it keeps changing.

I have faith that our club knows what they're going to be doing come draft day and I'll be happy with whoever.

Unless we use a pick on Hayes - in which case I'll be filthy.

What am I missing with Cerra, he just seems so meh to me
The trick with Cerra is to see what happens after he has disposed of the ball - he is definitely in top 5 best disposers of the ball by hand and foot and probably the best decision-maker in the draft. Few people would say Sam Mitchell (at his prime) or Joel Selwood are massive goal kickers or speedsters but they make space for others by drawing the opposition in to slice other teams apart; this is what Cerra does too. For mine he would be an awesome pick if LDU is gone at pick 2.
