Cannot go past a talent like Rayner if he's there at 2. Even if he leaves we will get a good deal.

Fogarty > Stephenson > Dow > LDU at 5 imo.

LDU seems like a dime a dozen big bodied inside mid to me? I don't get it. Not enough pace or elite level skills to separate him from others? Good for a side that doesn't have Fyfe, Neale and Blakely.

Dow seems like a no weakness, but nothing elite kind of player so I have Stephenson > Dow. Stephenson would add a point of difference to our midfield (speed and goal kicking) despite his beyond putrid field kicking.

Wet Toast will go Patmore and Allen in the twenties picks.
I'm curious who they go for at 13, I just hope Naughton is gone by then.
They will go a mid - just hope a good player doesn't slide to them.
I think Adelaide would be mad not get him as a Lever replacement.

Freo 2 and 5.
LDU and one of either Stephenson, Fogarty or Brayshaw.

My preference is Rayner ({pick 2) and either Foggarty or Stephenson at Pick5. I think Coffield will be in the mix too and wouldn't mind him at all at Pick 5. Watched the highlights of Rayner, UDL, Dow, Cerra, Stephenson, Bradshaw, Foggarty and Coffield. All seem to have a ton more potential than Weller. Happy days.

1. Cameron Rayner (VIC)
2. Luke Davies-Uniacke (VIC)
3. Adam Cerra (VIC)
4. Paddy Dow (VIC)
5. Noah Balta (VIC)

And here is Chris25 opinion on who we should get

Dream scenario (for me at least) would be for Brisbane to take Paddy Dow at #1.

And then my preference would be for Luke Davies-Uniacke at #2. He's the best pure midfielder in the draft for me, and a ball winning inside mid - which is something we really lack. I imagine he'd walk straight into our starting midfield, which would then allow Blakely to continue across half back with Mundy and Fyfe both spending more time forward. Just think he'd be the best pick given the rest of our squad.

But without knowing the kids personally and not having them interviewed them, it's hard to say. It could well be that one of the Vic Metro kids in Adam Cerra or Cameron Rayner appear to be the safer option in term of staying in WA long term. They'd be the 3 players I expect we'll be looking at. With my preferences being Davies-Uniacke, Cerra and then Rayner.

At #5, I think we'll be able open to 'reaching' more. Obviously it depends on who is there, maybe a Cerra or Rayner is still there. Otherwise it's around the mark that Jaidyn Stephenson or Andrew Brayshaw should be going. But I wouldn't be surprised if Sam Hayes is the pick. The club has said they're looking at rucks in this draft, and he's clearly the best. If you can get an elite midfielder at #2, then Hayes is a fine pick at #5. Plus Hayes is just as good, if not better, than any of the KPF's in this draft. Aaron Naughton is the other I think we look at, but that's depending more on how Pearce is recovering and what the club does with Logue - continue him down back, or trial him a bit further up the ground. I have a feeling Jarrod Brander and Darcy Fogarty will be more in the 8-15 range.

My very early thoughts are...

1. Brisbane - Paddy Dow
2. Fremantle - Luke Davies Uniacke
3. Carlton - Adam Cerra
4. North Melbourne - Cameron Rayner
5. Fremantle - Sam Hayes (although I'd rather Stephenson or Brayshaw)

I like Cerra skills, so I would like him at 2 or 5. LDU and Cerra would be a great combo.

Please pick players that will front up in the first year. Hate watching our picks play at Peel for a year or two first.

I think there is no way LDU are a dime a dozen, the Fyfe, Bont, josh Kelly mould is the dream. Think about danger next to Selwood. He's the man to take at 2

Not sure what everyone can see in LDU his disposal in all highlights packages for Vic Country is average at best. Yes he can tead the play and seems a strong mark but Rayner looks more skilled. He can lead extremely well and break lines.

Rayner would turn the ball over far less than LDU.

I unfortunately think they are both flight risks.

Maybe the safer option in Fogarty but he'd be more a number 5 pick I would think

Really think we need two mids. We've got enough defenders so Naughton is pretty pointless and it seems at least lately that picking tall forwards early on is a recipe for disaster.

Allikat you would be familiar with UDL and Raynor, why do you prefer Raynor ?

After watching the limited highlights from the state championships I prefer Raynor but the experts have UDL as #1

Just quietly, this is actually better than Christmas. Two top 5 picks. November 24 is so so long away. Im not big on worrying about go home factor. We have had a really good run and i back the club to do everything in their power to keep 2 and 5 here. I dont think we can pass up a game changer like Rayner if available, kid has the lowest floor and arguably highest ceiling in the draft. Pick 5 will depend on who we take at 2 i think. But i'd be happy to reach on Fogarty and back the club on if they think Brander has what it takes. Only ones i dont want are Hayes and Naughton. Will be particularly angry of we take Hayes

I'll admit I haven't paid attention to the "consensus" top 3-4 because I assumed they wouldn't be coming to us at 5. Obviously everything has changed now.

With picks 2 and 5 I really want game-changing players. I don't want us to pick players that don't excel in at least one aspect that can win you games. Watching the highlights of Dow, Cerra, and UDL and it seems like they are all pretty safe contested & clearance players. None seem to be amazing skill wise but Dow and Cerra probably better than UDL regarding that. Dow's hands seem good. Cerra occasionally hits an unreal foot pass then totally misses an easy one. It is strange.

So with my outlook the players I really want are Stephenson & Raynor. Happy to get Fogarty too. If we have to take a pure mid then I hope it is the one with the best decision making and kicking skills (to replace Mundy). Couldn't pick that from a couple of 2 minutes highlight packages each so hope our recruiters are across that. Ideally something like Pendles but understand that is unlikely.

Is Stephenson a good long term SHill replacement? Or not the same?
VERY different players. If Stephenson could kick like SHill he would be the clear no1 and by some margin I expect.

You know - this might be the first year in forever that we can predict the players Freo choose in the first round *

* only for them to call out Jack Higgins at #2 and Callum Coleman-Jones at #5

As a disclaimer, I haven't seen heaps of LDU, (plenty of UDLs, but not since I was in my early 20's), and he certainly looks like what you'd expect from a top draft pick. Stands out a bit, beats everyone else in his age group, and a lot of it is from his size, but he's certainly a very good player.
I've just found that Rayner has that bit of x-factor, on top of being exceptionally good. Someone else described him as a bit Kerr-like and I'd totally agree. Has a bit of confidence on the field too like a junior Dusty. Quite fast and very strong, and a dedicated and hard trainer. I know one of his junior trainers quite well (he's actually helping me prepare to play next year). And I don't think there'd be much go-home factor to him either.
