True enough and I'm not sorted even in a fantasy mindset to know the best we could wish for should we find ourselves with a top #3 pick and Josh committing to us.

But the idea of a Petracca plus a top 20 player plus cash to pursue a Lynch and say a Saad isn't unappealing. A lot eggs in one basket with the Josh Kelly approach.

I was all for this trade but the potential price on both financial and trading levels is starting to take me back to Colbert.
How do we have our cake and eat it to?

Via securing Kelly through the PSD and Martin via FA.

That leaves us to use pick 2 on a young gun in the draft OR pick up another very good player by swapping 2 for that club's first rounder. With pick 20 we would get another good kid.

For this to occur we would need to finish 17th and be assured that Brisbane won't take him which will happen by Josh saying he will only play in Melbourne.

Will this occur - unlikely - but it is the pathway that makes most sense to see us get a massive increase in skill to the club and a real chance to push back to top 4 quickly.

Going the other way - i.e. trading - robs Peter to pay Paul - as you rightly point out re the Colbert deal - we paid that one back for years after he retired.

Looks an absolute dead set certainty for a long term, high quality career.

How tall is he?

Looks to tall to be a mid.
16 year old key forward. Moves like he has all the time in the world, hits the right spots, marks beautifully and can hit a leading target by foot no probs. Looks like a real natural CHF.

I have just 3 words folks.

He certainly looks a safe bet. My only query would be if he can get better? No doubt he'll play a lot of AFL footy for whoever drafts him, but the question has to be will he be the best of the lot?

He looks like a man playing against kids. He could well dominate but others could catch up.

No doubt he's a top 5 pick (Possible pick 1)

As a general principle, for the reasons you highlight, the lower we fall, the less vital Josh becomes. Agreed.

That said, I'm not looking for Kelly to become a Buddy Franklin type player for us, in terms of individual 'marketing beacon'. Indeed, I can see that backfiring like GAJ in many ways if that was to be the case. Too much hype and expectation on the shoulders of one individual, no matter how good they are.

For me, the plus to getting Kelly is around the 'really, really good young player' side of things, along with the 'proven' vs 'unproven' aspect. He has the capacity to add the very ingredient our pedestrian midfield is crying out for. Couple him with the likes of Dusty and the whole complexion changes. Our 'bottom six', so to speak, become less worse and he helps makes those around him better.

As for the marketing side of things, I want that to be about the whole team and its prospects, not about one player and how apparently extraordinary they are. More a "Dogs '16", than a "Judd Blues star player and captain" outcome.

Do we get greedy and offer up next years first a player and a second rounder this year for Kelly? Will they bite at that?

Obviously next year we are all about points for Thomas and Scott, and that would allow us to keep our top pick this year also.

Would be daylight robbery
