Just curiously: how does it work if a player is drafted to an interstate club? Is it a part-time gig and all accomodation and travel etc is paid for?

And not many were/will be drafted to interstate clubs. Those that will are girls who nominated for state drafts outside of their home state... so I guess they would have been prepared to relocate and would've found out if it was covered by the clubs beforehand

You can't draft players from out of your state...Which makes the 4 non Vic clubs participation in this 'event' completely pointless except from a PR point of view...

Quite simply, if GWS decided not to take the 'number 1 draft pick' until their 15th round pick (pick 120 or thereabouts), there is nothing anyone else could have done about it, and it wouldn't have made the slightest difference.

You can, but they have to nominate you. GWS picked up several out of staters, however they had to nominate NSW. Some players who had decided they were prepared to move have been contacting clubs and touring facilities and gauging interest prior to nominating a state. Jess Wuetschner, the Tasmanian playing in WA had made it clear she was being drafted to Brisbane in tweets yesterday. She had visited the club, had talks with them, been told they would pick her, nominated Queensland, got drafted early, deal done.

From the point of view of this draft, you can't draft players from outside your state.

Them nominating just declares which state they're (nominally) in. That people are tweeting pre-draft which club they're being 'drafted' by with absolute certainty shows that (outside of Vic) the draft is really just window dressing.

Well you could only nominate for one state. And in most states there was only one team.

Exactly, for for those who nominated WA,SA,QLD & NSW it wasn't a draft, because nobody else could select those players. It was just the 'local' team saying in an overly dramatic way which 15-19 players they wanted.
