List Mgmt. 2017 AFLW Draft

I'd say she even has more. Huntington will come in and be an elite player from day dot. Molloy won't start with the same impact, but in a few years she could go past her. Might not, but she's tracking really well for limited football prior to this year.

So Hunginton will and Molloy might take a few Season to Become a Elite Player.

You happy with the Lambert and Eva Trade now after the Draft?

Well Guttridge and on particular Dargan replace Eva with the speed. Guttridge comes in for Stevens off HB and Dargan replaced Eva at HF. Lambert when fit is a very nice addition.

The Girls in our AFLW SIde be on the VFLW List as well?
That’s actually not something I have been able to find the answer too. You would assume they would align the AFLW & VFLW teams in this way so that you are following the same players etc. But it hasn’t been stated anywhere where the VFLW list comes from/how it is made up.

I’m also wondering if any of our new recruits are at the ‘marquee’ level, where they earn the higher salary, or did that only happen in the first year?

Already seems redundant to me. Pay all the AFLW players a minimum ‘marqee’ salary. The division is ridiculous. Some of the non marquee players were outstanding last season.

And if people think the clubs can’t afford the higher salaries, then charge an entry fee to the games. The fans will still come, and the women will receive fairer remuneration for their skills and hard work.

I think the player categories (i.e. marquee etc) still exist. I recall during the initial trade season that part of the player movement was about changing who was considered marquee (e.g. Adelaide moved one of their marquees down the ladder or traded (can’t remember which) to enable them to upgrade Erin Philips. And I think for us Moana Hope is no longer as well). After Marquee there are several tiers and each club can have so many of each. I don’t think drafted players are considered marquee but are a tier player.

I agree though, I’d rather see them move to a cap system that allows the girls to be at least semi professional. Once they eat semi or fully professional they’ll be able to do away with state based drafting too.

It seems that that’s the plan ...

How do draftees slot into a tiered system? Can only assume at the bottom rung as they'd need exposure at level to gauge where they ultimately fit? At this stage, it's all 1 year contracts isn't it, so does that allow players to be moved between these tiers?

As far as I know it’s still yearly contracts so yes between seasons teams have the ability to move players between the tiers but they have only so many positions in each tier is my understanding, so you can’t elevate some one to tier 1 from a lower tier without downgrading or trading out a player from that tier. No idea where the draftees fit into the tiered system, you would think they would indeed be bottom rung (similar to the male draftees getting a “rookie” contact) or potentially there is a specific draftee tier.

Didn’t recognise her at the time, but sitting to Chloe’s right is Darcy Guttridge, also drafted at the end of 2017 and injured in the pre-season practice game.:'(

Why is this on the main board?

Because people are interested in discussing it, please excuse yourself if that doesn't include you.
