Damn, Thompson had to retire in the third set. Hope the ankle injury is not too serious.

you can say a lot about Stosur but at least she had the shots to be top 10 and a grand slam champion. i agree about Dasha. struggle to see it something extraordinary in her game in which she could take her game to the next level. her counter shots are not as good as Kerber or Svitolina, she doesnt have the defence skills of Woz or Aga nor does she have a game winning shot like Stosurs forehand or other big hitters.Gavrilova loses the first set against svitolina 6-2, its these sorts of matches that are why she isnt close to the top 10, it seems she will be another of those perennial aussies we have that never quite makes the top 10
Edit Gavrilova completely smashed off the court 6-2 6-1, dont think she will really threaten the top 10 at any time in the future doesnt seem to have the game for it
Statham is now the only person denying an Australian from winning.Jasika is back on court in the Canberra clay court futures event this week. He must have been a late entry as he had to come through qualifying but is now the number 3 seed in the main draw. Polmans also did the same but is now the number 2 seed.
One interesting wild card is Jason Kubler who hasn't been on court for some time.
If it's over 27 degrees, Bernard will need a nanny nap. The poor darling....what is the weather like tomorrow in Miami? Tomic plays Kukushkin.
Thompson took Nishioka to 3 sets before losing 1-6, 6-4, 6-3
A bit????NK can be a bit arrogant sometimes but I still love him!
Whether Bernard Tomic was unwanted or unavailable for Australia's Davis Cup quarter-final against the US this week is a moot point amid the broader crisis threatening the former world No.17. Tomic has not won a match since January, and just two of his past 10, the manner of the defeats as concerning as the number. A career that has been on the decline for six months is on the precipice of a nasty freefall.
For every small step forward Nick Kyrgios appears to be taking, his erstwhile teammate continues to stumble half-heartedly in the opposite direction. Indeed, the question being pondered is one that has been regularly asked of Kyrgios: does he even want to play tennis? To quote one insider, Tomic's effort, even by his own standards, has been "terrible" since a first-round failure at last year's US Open.
Interesting article about tomic

thought i post this on the Aussie watch, as it concerns 2 Australians.
The cutoff for the MD at Roland Garros is #98. Six players using PR - Kokkinakis, Millman, Robredo, Tursunov, Berankis and Janowicz.
Still have my doubts about Kokkinakis. We've heard nothing from him in regards to making his way back, playing lead up itf tournaments.Kokkankis is enetered in the week before Millman doesn't appear anywhere before the French, doesn't really mean anything but we'll see if both actually take to the court.
What has happened to Omar Jasika?
