Thommo served for the match twice in Ningbo only to lose the 2nd set in a TB before losing the 3rd 6-4

How does Tomic make it into the Vienna main draw? Even the guys who played quallies are ranked higher than him.

Also lots of the Aussie guys playing the challenger in Traralgon this week. Kokkinakis playing doubles with Thompson but not singles.

.

He gets in as a top 30 commitment player, no idea what that means. I presume it is to do with his end of year ranking and a requirement to play a certain number of ATP500 tournaments.

Good career "mate". I feel like he is a sort of person to call everyone a mate. Anyway

often degraded for his limited skills but to make 53 in the world and play Fed on CC at Wimbledon 3rd round plus take a set off him is a fair effort. Always gave it his best at Davis Cup level. I still remember him and Hewitt taking on the Murray bros in Scotland. Was one of the most memorable and enjoyable doubles matches I have watched.

On a personal note, thanks for not running me over in your KIA when I tried to sneak across the lights at Swan St a couple of years over. I probably deserved it.

Yep, has had a fair career. Not entirely surprised, seemed to me like he was lacking in motivation at times with a bit of frustration coming through on court (more so than the usual!). Got engaged again recently so that might have something to do with his decision. Wish him all the best for the future :)

Is this the real reason he didn’t play Davis Cup?

An indirect reason. Kokkinakis' groin issues are the reason why he hasn't played much tennis this year but we, the public, were never made aware about it until now. The press just kept banging on about recovery from a shoulder surgery which felt like years ago now.

Kokkinakis may have given the impression he was good to go in the week leading up to the DC SF but Hewitt must have had doubts because of the lack of matches played and took the safer option in Millman who had played more matches in his return from injury.

Yeah I can't work out what is going on with Kokkinakis. There seems to be mixed reports on his injuries. Personally I am getting a bit worried he may never be right.

Tomic lost again. Served underarm at 5-5 40-0 if i read it correctly. Not the end of the world as some papers are claiming. probably just a stupid idea.

Will be so good watching him try and qualify for tournaments here next summer. I cant see any giving him anything.

I think he might sit the Australian summer out with some kind of fake injury. I can't see him playing qualifying or Challengers, it would be a humiliation for him given all his comments.

Like you say no tournament could give him a wildcard.

He has entered Challengers in Europe towards the end of this year. I think he will take that path in 2018.

someone did it on MP to win a tournament this year(and it was in the men's as well).

As a surprise tactic, it CAN work. Though someone with Tomics serve should just serve normally. Serving underarm doesnt showcase that Tomic is tanking for me. he could just serve a double fault for that. Perhaps it was lazily stupid but i think serving an ace(2nd serve as well) would be a better choice for being lazy. It would be point over inside 1 shot.

Think i am overthinking this. It is Tomic. He doesnt think much nowadays.

EDIT: yes probably :)

And who can forget Hingis' underarm serve

Would Tennis Australia give Groth a singles Wildcard to the Australian Open as a farewell?

I don't think they should but he is popular. I inagine he will play doubles.

Not really hard to be popular in contrast with Kyrgios and Tomic. btw his ex-wife didn't get one and her career was better.
