Was very quick in the rain but yeah when it started to dry he wasn't as quick.

He will be a gun in a good car next season
The rock on the road and Rick Kelly beaching it didn't help with pit stop strategies. Plus, what you said and then they left Stanaway out when Waters was the dry track specialist out of the 2.

Well yesterday was bloody wet! Watched most of it at the chase but the rain ruins the spectacle somewhat. Had to stand all race just to see over all the umbrellas.

Congrats to Reynolds but my drive of the day goes to Scotty Pye and Luffy (obvious bias). Luffy was absolutely brilliant in that first stint and Scotty did so well under pressure at the end. Didn't know that car had it in it.

Was sad to leave the mountain last night but I'll definitely be going back next year. That was absolutely fantastic.

Drive of the day was CLEARLY Stanaway. Brained everyone in the worst of conditions.

What's the go with Stanaway? I presume he'll be in the main game next season? Take Bright's spot at PRA?
Possibly but there's also huge talk of LDM switching to Prodrive Falcons next year and he would get a seat

So Stanaway would still change teams? Can't really see him wanting to go to LDM, surely he should be aiming higher than that.

If I was PRA, I'd be moving Frosty on. Make Chaz your main driver with Waters and Stanaway.

Can't see them doing that, but Brights seat is a chance.

The LDM move would be in a purely Prodrive backed car, sort of like Tekno to T8.

Glad you had a good time! Hope you've dried out by now. Did you throw the rock on the road?

Hopefully I'll see you there next year! BF Bathurst meet up time

Just dried out today I think! Haha wasn't the one to throw the rock - didn't venture up the top of the hill yesterday, far too wet.

Definitely up for a BF Bathurst meet up! I'll be the one in the HSV gear haha

The rock on the road yesterday brought back memories of Dick Johnston's accident with 'the rock' in the 1980 Bathurst 1000, which cost him any chance of winning The Great Race that was won by the late Peter Brock and Jim Richards.

So it wasn't raised at the time, but JW made comments during an interview on Adelaide radio that he values the championship a bit higher than a Bathurst win.

It got me thinking, which one would you rather ?? Brock is known as the King of the Mountain, won 9 (technically 6) and won 3 titles. DJ, Skaife and Geoghegan and even JW himself aren't rated anywhere near as highly by most yet Skaife and JW in particular have a far superior record.

Is it a case of "Bathurst is harder to win as a once off" Brock was also the King of PR so no doubt that's helped the myth. Hell I'd rate Jim Richards as a better driver too.

This is my opinion. An opinion that's taken years to form with my interest in Australian motorsport history.

Bathurst was pretty much the Australian championship for car racing. It's just it was called the Bathurst 1000, and it was a one-off showdown. Like the Grand Final campaigner Skaife goes on about. In effect, Brock is a nine time Australian champion. The atcc previously was just something to do between Bathursts.

Things take a turn without realising. Thanks to that campaigner Cochrane. Bathurst was included in the series to boost the importance of the series. Without realising, it then diminished the value of Bathurst. Hence, lightweight Whincup's attitude.

Furthermore. My opinion is that there's really only two series that are genuine"championships". F1 and WRC. Because they're the World championship and everything else is superseded by it. Everything else below F1/WRC is nice to win, but not that big a deal. Below F1, racing series/region/industry was centred around big annual race. Bathurst, along with Le Mans and the Indy 500. F1 was always centred around the championship.

Below F1/WRC. It's all about the big races. So my answer is Bathurst.

For all his success. Whincup is a lightweight.

See but then you have my major Brock bugbear, he won in cars he wasn't entered in twice, and was being brained by Johnson in 1980.

If today's guys were able to enter in cars they weren't originally Skaife and Lowndes would have just as many wins IMO

Whincup says that when he loses. If he really thought that he would have pitted 2 years ago.

He said it Thursday, however I tend to agree.

It's an interesting one, you can bet your bottom dollar that Webber would give up his Sportcar title for a Le Mans win, and Reynolds won't care if he doesn't win a title, which he won't IMO.

In AFL terms my side were the best team in the league for most of the year, but I'd rather have done what Richmond did and finished 3rd but won the GF.

I would much rather Bathurst be a standalone race personally.

Scotty Mac said he had Bathurst higher than the championship this week.

It's really hard to say for the drivers - during the last week, they say Bathurst to stay popular with the fans. The only thing that sticks with me is that they prepare through the off season for the year, not just for Bathurst. Can see both sides to it.

yeah thats fair.
In the championship (much like f1) the car setup matters almost as much as the driver. You cant fluke it for a whole year.

Bathurst has a equalising factor that gives the less equipped teams the illusion of having a better chance.

Also gives spuds like Will Davison a chance to have some glory.

If I was in charge of Supercars, I would make the Bathurst 1000 to be a stand alone race and not part of the Supercars Championship.

And why not make it like the Melbourne Cup-that is invite drivers and teams from NASCAR and the European version of Supercars to take part in Australia's Great Race-the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama, Bathurst?
