B. Maynard Marsh Sinclair

HB Varcoe Moore Howe

c Elliot Aish Smith

HF Greenwood Reid Fasolo

F Goldsack Pendlebury White

R. Grundy Sidebottom Treloar

Int Adams Degoey Crisp Williams

Emergency. Cox Wills Broomhead Ramsay Scharenberg

- Moore to captain the backline for a year. Smart enough to understand and implement Buck's floating moving intercept contest defence.

- Pendles to play solely forward for the whole year. Missed out on Buckley and Swan playing forward of the ball so its time now for Pendles. Midfield bats the whole bench (Marley onballer 2017)

- Reid up forward for whole year, is big and old enough to hold down key forward role.

there was a replay of the geelong game on foxtel today, jack crisp was unbelievably good in the first half. where is that form, how can we harness that line breaking aggression and get him to perform in this manner on a more regular basis. that bloke could honestly transform our forward delivery if he could find a way to break the lines against more opponents

B: Scharenberg - Brown - Maynard

HB: Howe - Reid - Sinclair

C: Sidebottom - Adams - Aish

HF:Elliot - White - Varcoe

F:Fasolo - Moore - Broomhead

Foll:Grundy - Treloar - Pendlebury

I/C: Ramsey - De Goey - Crisp - Smith

Emg: Langdon - Wills - Crocker

Depth in Marsh, Greenwood, Cox, Goldsack, Oxley, Phillips, Blair, Keeffe, Thomas, Sier and Wyatt is much better than this year. Add Brown and Daicos.

Whatever we get for Cloke, Witts and Williams will be added to this, likely WHE and Tomlinson?

Goodyear, Gault, Frost, Golds to go with those who already have.

IMO the best team we can put on the park next year with our current list.

B Ramsay Brown Maynard
HB Langdon Reid Scharenburg
C Varcoe Treloar Sidebottom
HF Elliot White Fasolo
F Howe Cox Moore
R Grundy Adams Pendlebury
B Broomhead Aish DeGoey Crisp
E Marsh Wills Crocker

Next in line:
Keefe Goldsack Oxley Greenwood Phillips Williams Sinclair Frost Goodyear Sier Thomos
Blair

Not listed because they are getting off the bus:
Cloke Witts

I hope I have not missed anyone.

It's early, but fire away boys (and girls).

FB: Marsh, Keefe, Howe
HB: Sinclair, Reid, Smith
C: Sidebottom, Adams, Crisp
HF: De Goey, White, Wills
FF: Crocker, Moore, Elliott
Ru: Grundy, Treloar, Pendlebury
Int: Philips, Varcoe, Greenwood, Maynard

Brown goes, as does Cloke. I don't think we bring in anyone this that will walk straight into the team.

Maybe a WHE type will take Crocker/Philips/Varcoe spot, but the half forward type is a revolving door anyway, regardless of the team.
Keeffe at full back! Yes! Can't wait to get smashed!

FB: Maynard, Brown, Ramsay
HB: Howe, Reid, Scharenberg
C: Sidebottom, Adams, Aish
HF: De Goey, White, Varcoe
FF: Fasolo, Moore, Elliott
Ru: Grundy, Treloar, Pendlebury
Int: Smith, Wills, Crisp, Williams

Assumes Sinclair's concussions are career-threatening, Broomhead leaves and that Brown stays. Would play Marsh ahead of Keeffe at this stage assuming Brown goes, but I'm not sold on Marsh yet.
That's better.

I am of the opinion that a best 22 does not exist in reality, best 25-26 as roles change with opposition teams and conditional matchups.

Before Keeffe was rubbed out he was training with the forwards, from memory and please correct me if I am wrong he was originally thought of as just that. Defensive tall option up forward, with Cloke gone he could be a real consideration. We need to keep Brown, Reid stays back, Rammer and Sharenberg are good potential and Langdon is useful and will have filled out a little. Howe to be used back and forward as the game and the opposition dictates. Elliott back on the park will be significant, fingers crossed.

It will be an interesting trade period and keen to see who and what type of player we target in the draft.

I have high hopes for crisp, he seems a fair barometer for our team. He is only 22, with 60 games. He will get better and more consistent.

A fit Elliot and Fasolo would turn our forward 50 from average to fantastic. If Moore continues to develop there is massive potential there. Big weakness is key back and a cloke replacement.

If we have a healthy year from those two plus Ramsey and Sharenberg(?) then we have huge upside. Elliot was perhaps in our top 5 players previous to this year.

Not necessarily but more buy in from the players each week and a decent game plan to suit the modern game might.

Not sure about the love for Keeffe, he was a whipped boy before he got banned and now after being out of the game for two years he is meant to be the saviour. Spare me, both he and Thomas will struggle next year
Like any player that's been missing for a length of time they go from ordinary to a lock in player.

Keep Greenwood forward. Crisp played best when Greenwood wasn't in the team. Greenwood I don't think I had in my team but he's been good forward.

As much as I'd love to believe that Scharenberg and Ramsey are two young guns who will walk their way into our best 22, I think the likelihood of both coming back from injury, and playing to the standard required is extremely unlikely next year.

I don't think anyone actually remembers how slow Scharenberg was in his few AFL games, how he was almost lazy and had Dan Menzel kick all those goals on him. Now he has done another knee and suddenly he comes back and is best 22?? It's fanciful. If the guy was picked at number 56, instead of 6, we would all be crying for him to be delisted.

I can't believe how many have Keeffe in the side let alone at FB. He wasn't good enough to play FB before he missed 2 years. Brown has ability, experience and strength over Keeffe. Keefe will compete with Frost and others for a 3rd tall defender spot until we get someone better - which may end up being Marsh but he has a long way to go.

As for having Scharenberg in the side - he's played 4 games averaging 15 possessions and he's had multiple knee recos. I'd love him to make it and play good footy immediately but it's just hope. If he's already best 22 then we are bottom 4. Surely we have a few ahead of him right now.

The way I see it, we have Brown and Reid as key backs and Howe as a flanker. There are 3 more defensive spots up for grabs. Smith has done enough to start in the side round 1. Next in line I'd have Maynard as a front runner and after that the cupboard is bare. Up forward Moore will be top shelf. Elliot and Fasolo could be very very good but fitness is a major concern. After that we are loading up with second string, inconsistent talls and makeshift mids playing forward. Grundy picks himself. Witts is not good enough. We need to recruit another ruck, probably 2. I'd favour 1 experienced and 1 younger ruck. Across the centre we have Sidebottom, Adams, Varcoe. The 2 starting centre square mids have to be Pendlebury & Treloar. After that we have De Goey and Aish ahead of Greenwood and then Crisp based on age and upside.

Marsh Brown Maynard
Smith Reid Howe
Sidebotom, Adams, Varco
Elliot, White, Aish
Fasolo, Moore, Cox

Grundy, Pendlebury, Treloar

Int: De Goey, Greenwood, Crisp, Goldsack.

Lots of holes mostly filled by players who we can't take to a flag or players we are praying to develop and stay fit.
One of Cox and White has to play CHF which is a worry. The other competes with smaller players for a forward spot.
Ramsay and Scarenberg are development hopes. If they come on strongly next year it's a bonus but one we desperately need.
Broomhead, Thomas, Sinclair, Williams, Langdon, Phillips, Crocker, Wills are all in the mix but all with plenty to prove.
