Shem rookie doesn't count for primary list, same as LL and JML.
Far As I know JML has already left.
We started the year with 39 on the primary list, traded out 3, brought in 3 via FA and trades so we still have 39 on the primary list (Stewart was promoted for Burton and when Burton came back Stewart went back onto the rookie list)
Do to have 3 picks at draft time including rookie upgrades we need to delist two players.

We may go with that bare minimum and that may mean we upgrade a rookie or two. Under those circumstances I think Lachie will still be on the rookie list next year.
Senior players that are out of contract I believe are
Litherland
Heatherly
Willsmore
Webster
Danger
Brand (haven't seen an announcement)
I hope Brand and Heatherly are signed up
Webby started coming good could be delisted and rookied or kept
Willsmore ended the year poorly could be in the gun
I'd prefer to keep Gus over Spang but who knows
 
Does Hodge play forward in 2017? Sounds bad but I'm struggling to see exactly where he fits in when everyone is fit?

I think Whitecross is kind of stepping into his role down back, I'm not sure Hodge's style suits a forward pocket particularly well in the way we use our crumbers off the pack and I can't imagine him spending the same or more time in the middle than he did in 2016.

Perhaps he's just a supremely talented utility from here on in?

Yep. Over 30 players with claims on a spot. Is actually quite surprising isnt it how hard it is to pick the side. Agree good signs.

Still a very handy list if we cam Get O'meara right.

Webster and Willsmore are Unlikely to make it IMO. If Webster can get his body right he may still be able to make it as a high pressure forward with speed.

Willsmore doesn't work hard enough both ways unfortunately.

Let's face it. We have lost or soon to lose Hodge, Mitchell, Burgoyne, Gibson and Lewis. All these guys are freak footballers that will be remembered for a lifetime.

If we don't get A grade talent in soon we are fecked. The Puopolos and the Ceglars and even Smiths of this team are complimentary players, not year in year out stars of the game.

We need a few more stars. Burton needs to be the next Hodge. O'Meara the next Lewis or better. Mitchell the next Mitchell. Brand needs to be the next Croad. Howe the next Birchell. Doc the next Guerra.


Outside of our best 22 we need two more players to come out of nowhere and be All Australians if we are to compete for a flag. Maybe next year with a couple of free agents...and next year we lose more A graders to retirements

... our current list may get us a spot from 3rd to 6th...but to pinch a premiership we need one or two more A+ graders

Agree Blaze. The fact that there are quite a few players who would be very unlucky not to be in the seniors, as apart from veterans, shows we have a very healthy squad, and should go some way into the finals again.

At this stage I am not even going to attempt to name a side.

Disagree re Smith. Close to best wingman in the game.

I reckon his a gem! But take your Hawks glasses off for a second. Since 2008 is he really in the same conversation as Birchall, Hodge, Burgoyne, Franklin, Mitchell, Lewis and Roughead? These guys are all time greats. Smith is not an all time great. Don't underestimate the players we have lost or about to lose.

When did I have say he's in that group?

He is elite in the position that he plays. Wouldn't call that a complimentary player.
