Few people suggesting that it was good for Lester to stick around when others of his cohort up and left. The difference is that the others had suitors and were all relatively high picks except for Karnezis and Yeo. However you could tell with Yeo, he could be something. Lester didn't really have any suitors so l don't think he should be praised for that imo.
I know he is very professional in the way he goes about it but l really think that Lester is indicative of how we are playing. If we are picking Lester in our team then l don't think we will be playing high quality football that shows we are moving up the ladder disregarding picking him due to injuries. He is a player than can go a few places but has never made a spot his own, a bits and pieces player. I just think he will be easier to slot in the best 22 lineup more easily than others due to him being in the leadership group. Not trying to put him down but l think this is the reality. Although l have never been on the Lester bandwagon myself.
 
It's not a secret I've never been a fan of Beams and never wanted him in the first place but to make him captain is a joke what happens when he breaks down again before round 5 he said as much today he really can't have faith in getting through a full season again Zorko is our most consistent player and really should be the Captain

I was at work when I watched the video but I don't remember Beams saying that.

I also don't think captaincy should be an award for "most consistent player".

There will always be people who like and hate club choices. There'd be negative comments if Zorko was nominated just as there is with Beams. Lets give a quality player, solid leader, great trainer and passionate club man a chance shall we?

Beams is the captain of the 'club'.
Particularly in tough market that is more than being captain of the team.

We needed someone we could sell to the public both on game day and on week days.

Premiership winner.
Qlder.
Turned his back on Eddie to come home and play with his brother when his dad was sick.
Best player for the 70 percent of games he will play.

Yeah I reckon the club can get behind that.

Maybe you should watch the press conference again. He actually said the complete opposite...

"I've done everything possible to make sure I'm playing every game for us this year. I've got full confidence in my body that it's gonna hold up... I'm really excited to play every game this year for the club."

I think, regardless of what the outcome has turned out to be, we could be assured by the fact that with Fagan and Noble running the process, it was being done only in the club's best interests. Neither of them was aligned to anyone at the club, had no history at the club and could just make the best decision for the club.

i am satisfied that for where we are right now, this is a good leadership group, Beams is a good captain to lead us through this phase because we need genuine on-field leadership more than anything else right now. Rockliff must have impressed Fagan and Noble enough in his redemption to be the vice-captain and Zorks is a reliable lieutenant.

In a couple of years we will find the next generation coming through, led by Harro. I think there are other future leaders who will reveal themselves over the next few seasons as we start to turn the corner.

I was mildly disappointed that Robbo wasn't in the leadership group but perhaps that just means he continues to set the standard for effort and commitment on-field. Rich might benefit from knowing he has no responsibility to the team other than get the best out of himself this season.

Always found Beams fairly likeable when he was at Collingwood. I hope he can get out on the park this year.

We went from Cousins/Judd to Darren Glass in a period of turmoil and now have Shannon Hurn and the latter two are both pretty low profile guys. People tend to be anti low profile captains and think every captain should be like Hodge or Selwood but it's not really the case. If the players say Beams and the new coaching group says Beams then that's a pretty good sign going forward.
 
Ok decision made ! Beams got the gig , he has been there done it , he has walked the walk , he has proven he wants to be a lion and is a local. We needed on field change as much as we did off field

So it's part of the rebirth , move on , get behind the bloke and keep the momentum going forward
 
I thought Fagan's comments on Rocky were pretty instructive:

- improved his work ethic
- improved his lifestyle
- become a more positive, happier person around the football club.

If any of those things were a serious problem before, - a poor work ethic, a poor lifestyle and a negative attitude - that would be a club-wide issue. Don't know what 'lifestyle' means - could mean he played FIFA till 2am every night - but Fagan possibly does.

But credit to him for working back. His body looks amazing. Let's hope he's really grown.

Credit also to Fagan and crew for providing a pathway where Rocky could get back in the good books if he tried hard enough.

Definitely surprised about Mitch. I was thinking that someone has to be 8th and we'll never know who it was, but Fagan said there was a natural gap between 7th and 8th.
