Did anyone else see the triple m interview Dan Sauce Merrett did with Dayne? It was good as it was light hearted and talked about pre game rituals. Dayne mentioned a couple of things such as:
He and Mayes used to fight it out over who runs out on the ground last. The captaincy has bugged him up now as he as to run out first.
Dayne has a pre game ritual of having toilet paper with him as he tends to do No 2's a lot before the game and the toilet paper at grounds like the MCG is like sand paper. Mayes apparently vomits before games and Dayne commented at the end he would rather Poo than Spew Cracked me up.

Is definitely from the nerves but it's interesting that Beams can control his nerves. Maybe he could work closely with Mayes. I think a lot of players have this issue though.

The Mayes throwing up thing comes as no surprise at all. He clearly struggles with nerves/anxiety and confidence.

Then again, Allan Langer is one of the most relaxed, confident rugby league players I've seen and he was apparently a regular with a pre-game chunder.

It's interesting that Beams wasn't rated as a leader at the Pies but now he's our captain hopefully he's seriously worked on that the players think Rocky is unqualified can't wait to see what they think of Beams

Did he step aside after the next year because he didn't feel as though leadership was his thing.
But ultimately people grow up, he was a much different person back then and i feel he is ready now.
And obviously he believes he is ready now which is the most important thing.

Even if he hadn't been formally appointed Captain, in my mind he would be anyway.

Just like, even though Mitch isn't formally part of the leadership group, he is.

On Mayes, everyone's different but I found that waiting to go out to bat in cricket I was nervous from the moment I woke up but once I got out there it all went away... Didn't help the nerves that I was a useless no. 10/11 that spent half the day waiting and 5 minutes out on the pitch though

Mal Meninga used to vomit to the point if dry retching before state of origin. Didn't seem to slow him down

Mate it's an anonymous online forum. You're a gun opener, absolutely robbed not to play for Queensland. You also used to bowl 150kph back in the day but because of your physio's horrible incompetence you can now only get it up to around 140. Every friday you go for a XXXX at the Caxton with AB, McDermott, Heals, Alfie Langer, Wally Lewis, Peter Beattie and Joh Bjelke-Petersen
