Is Williamson actually a chance or are you all being a bit cheeky after his only preseason game?

Why do you like him so much?
I rate him but I think it's mainly snippets we've heard from very reliable posters who are in the know. Reports on him are always amazingly positive. I really doubt he'll play round 1 but would be extremely surprised if he doesn't play this year.

We're in development mode so most of the younger players will get an opportunity at some stage.

He's very young and he'll start at VFL level but if his form warrants senior selection he'll get his chance.

I agree. He might be an okay forward should we move him forward, but if we play him back he will be A grade.. We would be hampering his and the teams development for a short term fix. Jake Carlisle is a prime example everything was lining up for him to be a very good key position defender, Essendon threw him forward and ruined his development for a few years and will now go back at Stkilda and could be All Australian.... Except Weitering is a far superior player to Carlisle.

With all due respect, we know jack shit. There are so many assumptions that you make that could turn out the exact opposite. He could turn out to be an even better forward than he was a back.

But you're supposed to present your opinion and associated assumptions as fact on this site... Right?

Yeah I see Weitering more like a Pavlich or Riewoldt (spent time back in their younger years) and will probably succeed wherever he plays.

Can someone post a best 22 (updated), I have no way of understanding our forwardline ahead of Thursday's game.
Plowman Rowe White
Docherty Marchbank Simpson
Thomas Cripps E. Curnow
C. Curnow (if fit) Weitering Wright
Pickett Casboult Silvagni
Foll: Kreuzer Gibbs Murphy
I/C: LeBois Kerridge Smedts Cuningham/Palmer

I think your right here weitering hasnt had enough time forward for people including myself to form a strong opinion on where he is best suited . All conjecture but fact is our coach is never going to pigeon hole a player into one position unless its obvious that thats the only position he can play that benefits the team best .

IMO:

We have 20 young players i want to see as much of as possible(within reason) in 2017 & 2018. Remarkably, if you put them all together, they make a beautifully balanced side if all are good enough(of course some will not make it though).

Who would have thunk it, it's as though we have a professional list manager building a list nowo_O

Plowman Marchbank Macreadie
Docherty Weitering Byrne
Williamson Cripps Fisher
Polson Curnow Pickett
LeBois McKay Silvagni
Phillips* Cuningham Petrevski-Seton

Kerr Glass-McCasker

*young(ish 25) for a ruck.

In any team going forward i would like the match committee to have a rigid(ish) policy to play 12 of these players in the Seniors each week. Most teams i see selected in this thread and others usually only contain 10. We must try as hard as possible for it to be 12 every week.

Plowman, Marchbank, Docherty, Weitering, Byrne, Cripps, Curnow, Pickett, Silvagni, and SPS i would suggest are already best 22. Presuming 8 out of those 10 are fit each week, i reckon we must make sure to make up the number of 12 with others from the above list each week.

Add Gibbs, Murphy, Simpson, Kruezer, E.Curnow and Wright as senior players in our best 22 atm.

That makes 12 young and 6 senior players to make 18.

And then Bolts can knock himself out padding the 22 out with whoever he likes from the bunch of ordinaries on the rest of the list.

The Key No. for 2017 and 2018 for me and anyone else hoping we will have future success is 12 imo. 12 "kids with futures" each week...every week.

And take the results as they come...and adjust the list accordingly each year.

That's a pretty sound template TW.
The 6 senior players mentioned and 4 fillers are enough to carry a fair portion of the heavy lifting .
Bolton and Trigg have both mentioned in recent days that the club's progress will not be solely measured in wins and losses these next 2 years , there's so much more we need to do in these early stages of the rebuild , namely , pumping games into our newly acquired youth.
For the first time in a long time , im confident we have capable people steering the ship .
