2017 Delistings

Club can get ****ed honestly for delisting my favourite player. The only actual player we had who shows genuine balls with his mongrel type attitude is now gone.

Don't care about Hayball and don't even know who he is.

Ruggles a bit stiff IMO. Was in the side early 2017 and then never got another chance. I would think we are unlikely to get better backup than him with our last pick in the draft.

I reckon Bews’ emergence this season into a really good small defender has made the club think we don’t need Ruggles.

Ruggles was no good, and as far as the depth question, he’s behind Kolo, Thurlow, Bews and Stewart for a Small/Mid defender, maybe even 2x Gurthries as well. Let alone if we draft a kid they want to play down there. If he’s worth anything someone else will pick him up.

I hope not but if Bews gets injured in 2018 they're gonna cop it and I'll love every minute of it. Only a very small portion of people wanted Ruggles gone and the people who actually matter were apart of it.

Ruggles was great. To me, he was the last thing reminding me of the glory days 2007-2011 even though he wasn't here then nor was he a teammate of any of the guys he reminds me of. He reminded me of the guys like Chappy, Moons, Hunt, Scarlo and Dasher who were hard at it and now he's gone that edge is entirely gone, dead and buried for me. You can say a guy like Joel Selwood is hard at it but there's something very different if you compare him to the blokes I've listed - lacks the absolute mongrel and ferocity that these blokes all had.

I'm not sure if he will get another chance elsewhere - I sure hope so but whatever happens I wish The Ruggler the best.

Ruggles was not the same type of player as either Mackie or Lonergan. He could not fill their shoes even If he was still on the list.

He is a panic and turnover merchant... Bews development, Stewart doing what he did, Zuths potential and still having Thurlow in the wings as well means Ruggles was nothing more than depth at best

I am very surprised at Hay all being re-rookied actually. I have seen nothing to indicate that he could make it at the top level, and he has had 2 full years at it. Given how decent our other rookie picks seem to have been lately, why not get another new one in?

I think you've missed majority of the people who've wanted Ruggles to re-sign's point. Not many are actually expecting him to make it given his age now. We want him as a back up and someone who can also partially teach the lads who play for our VFL side some flair, aggression and mongrel so they're not totally eaten up alive when they get their shot. Similar to how GHS is kept around for his leadership ability but a different reason.

Yep I agree. Was not perfect but was better than others on the list and tougher than most. So who did he upset? I am a little bewildered by this one.

Got cleaned up from behind by the Dawks (toughguy Roughie?) while standing on the mark. Dog act, but at least he kept up the theme. Ruggles was playing well and very stiff.

Not sure about that but I would have given him a crack somewhere else. FFS every other player on the list has played in every position on the bloody field. I thought he had something we lacked.

If we say our best defence (6 + a bench player) is Taylor, Tuohy, Bews, Stewart, Henderson, Kolo and Zuthrie (bold call I know), then that leaves Thurlow, Guthrie as reserve medium smalls and neither had a great 2017. With untried Gardner and House for tall defence depth it does look a little thin imo.

I’d have personally kept Ruggles but I do doubt his absence will have a cataclysmic effect on the Geelong Footy Club so not worth melting over.

I'd love to see us draft Ed Richards - fast, skilled medium sized player that can play both as a running defender as well as further up the ground. Has the body size to almost play first year. I reckon he'd be a great addition to our team.
