Clark & Bonar/Coffield is the scenario at this stage

Cerra can still get to us if word is North have gone cold on him as they looked the biggest threat. Freo also could grab him unless they see him as a flight risk and unsure if pies would take him if they are looking at others.

Maybe North take Brayshaw or Dow and Freo go the D Fog or Naughton with #5 if they dont want two mids, then pies will look at Coff, Cerra and Murphy. D fog has to come into top 6 contention for us to get Cerra i reckon.

Who knows! This has to be the hardest draft to predict that i can think of.
Appears Only way Cerra makes it is if he and Brayshaw are both there. They might take Brayshaw first depending on their order. Also a bit of an if for Pies to skip him as well, but possible. So only way Brayshaw and Cerra get there is if there is a bit of a bolter at 4 or as you say Freo do likewise, but they’ve really not been linked with anything but mids, so seems unlikely.

I love the haul of Cerra/Clark/McCartin.

Don’t forget we’re using 45 aswell. Could be Hartung, could be a Petty/Taylor type.

Could it be his shift away from the midfield in the champs when he was put behind the ball that diminished his star somewhat. Or maybe he struggled physically with niggle. Or maybe some of the bodies around him grew and/or matured quicker so as to suggest that Hunters impact in the big leagues will not be what was expected.

But as Twomey’s tweet from early 2016 suggests, he’s always been in the conversation.

I like Hunter because he can dispose by foot from congestion. Gets himself into good position to find the pill, sees players in space very early, and gets foot to ball turbo quick for the short pass and mark. High footy IQ. Gut runner. Fearless in the tackle. Stays on his feet. Can step, spin, dummy with the best of them. Fast safe hands, and a good handballer. His one knock has to be his size and his ability to fill out and impact the contest and or tackle at the highest level. EDIT: Possibly a comparative lack of explosive pace.

Best of the rest once you take LDU, Dow, Cerra and Rayner off the table.
Nah sorry not best of the rest. Is definitely not a good kick out of congestion, no breakaway first few steps. Stephenson is a literal matchwinner, Brayshaw has been the most consistently good player from this year's draft crop. Coffield is faster, taller and a better kick. I'd have the top 3 (rayner, dow, ldu). Then the next 4, then clark at best, I see him going about 13 though after some of the bolters and key position players go.

Schloithe has been told they will try to get him. They also have Parker/TKelly interest. When & What draft , I don't know.
After looking at the Kelly , Ryan highlights , they would have to be the best highlights of any of the draft picks , one touch class players - to tell you the truth these guys should just about be top ten .
we took long at 24 and these guys are slick.

Why are these draft experts over looking these guys.

I still see we go for Cerra , Fogarty , Stephenson , Coffield , Brayshaw but our 2nd round pick should be one of Kelly or Ryan - would top off our forward line , just class

Does Clark have the tank to play as an outside mid?

If he's being being picked as an inside mid surely there are better options available for an inside mid. Ainsworth is a better inside mid

I think for Clark to be picked by us he would have to be picked as an outside mid

Fair bit of talk about HC from this post onwards, including views about his kicking, running abilities and which roles he'll be best suited to.

Clark was really firming. So I think he will be 8 and a slider at ,7
Clark seems like an obvious choice we should make especially with two top 10 picks at the ready.

Too much emphasis is placed on draft year & not enough on the couple of years prior. How often do we see established AFL players have a top 10 in the comp year & follow it up with maybe a 20-30 in comp year?

I really hope our recruiters are paying consideration to the overal junior careers when picking players cos we saw blokes like Berry & Witherden slide cos they weren’t at their underage level (for a different reasons) only to look like top 5 draftees once they hit the AFL.

In order of preference:
1. LDU
2. Cerra
3. Dow
4. Rayner
5. Clark

I’d be very happy to snag the bloke I have top 5 preference with pick 7/8.

Not much talk of our later picks 34 and 44(I think). I do hope with at least 1 we get a gun state league player possibly fritsch or kelly mostly. I think would really beef our core players , whilst still being young enough.

What about this guy?

Kade Answerth (Sandringham, 20, 183cm, 82kg): having won the medal as best-afield for Oakleigh Chargers in the 2015 TAC Cup grand final, Answerth arrived at Sandy with a decent reputation. He enhanced it by finishing runner-up in the best and fairest for a team that featured 15 St Kilda players most weeks. Answerth initially played as the 23rd man but he needed no selection favours from there, commanding an onball role and setting the example with his tackling.

I’m getting the vibe Hedgy rates him? Clark seems very underrated which is strange considering he was rated 1-5 as an underager & didn’t do an awful lot wrong this year.
I think you're overrating his underage year though. Only averaged 16 disposals per game in his 10 TAC Cup games in 2016 and only 7.5 disposals per game in his two champs games.

Compare that to say LOB, who averaged 24 and 14 disposals respectively per game in his underage year, or Sam Walsh this year for Geelong for instance, who averaged something like 28, even though he's not eligible until next year. Sounds like he went really well at 16yo tho.

I don't think you need to worry though, we clearly rate what they do over a number of years, otherwise we probably wouldn't have drafted Billings or Paddy, or J-Webb, apart from anyone else.

Sam Cheeseburger says in his phantom today that we are "huge fans of Stephenson" and may pounce if given the heart all-clear.
I’m still hoping for Stepho and Bonar. Not for the X factor, just the two I hope might have terrific careers. Clark is a reasonable fallback.
