I was surprised to see his numbers after i read your comment.
How did he avg 120 supercoach points in the champs but only under 20 possessions. I dont get it. I looked and he only averaged 20 disposals in TAC. So he can fend off big deal. Why is he the number 1 pick?
Goalkicking, explosive player are afl traits. They look at that more than numbers. The numbers should come with the endurance. Bont didn't get much of it at u/18s.

Look last year some of the highest disposal winners (Jonty Scharenberg) in the championships didn't even get drafted.

O'Briens highlights look terrific. Has some similarities with Billings.

In saying that, the best package I saw was Jarrod Pickett.

What i dont get with Rayner is if his endurance is so bad and his beep test results are in bottom bracket how does he get such high possession numbers consistently?
I have a theory for this.

He's the best player in his team so obviously they look to involve him in their play so he gets a lot of touches.

But after he gets drafted he wouldn't command as much as the ball so then it's about actually getting the footy at AFL level which is much harder to do.

Away overseas at the moment but one thing its great to see that the draft standard seems to have gone up considerably as each "big fish" re-signed.

Was always happy yo have Picks 7 & 8 - gives us so many options still. I think we will be more than happy with what pans out over the draft/trade period.

Just written a few members names down, I'm interested on who you think we could get with our picks 7 and 8 after the teams have taken Rayner, LDU , Dow , Cerra , Brander
just for future reference and see how they turn out.

Premium Coffield and Higgins I expect Stephenson to be taken before 7
Lightsxo Coffield and Constable/O'Brien however would take LDU if he fell to us
Wright1 Stephenson probably gone, so will say... Coffield & Boner

Would love Stephenson and Coffield. Coffield would be great for us. Quick outside player, with good size. Fantastic right foot kick, who isnt great on left side, but finds time like Dal used to and doesn't need to kick on left that often.
I think Stephenson may be gone by our turn, if so, I would like to grab Aidan Boner. 190cm beast (Looks like Jimmy Gwilt already) who has explosive speed, kicks it 60M with a nice leg and has a nice vertical jump. Coming off 2 knee reco's (1st didnt take, so really only 1), he hasnt played much footy in last 18-24 months. Touted to be a potential pick 1 as a 16yo. Goes to school at Haileybury with LDU, and when Boner returned to play there a month or 2 ago, it was LDU who? Would be a slight risk which I dont think will happen in top 6 picks, so I would love for us to gamble on Aidan Boner. Joel Selwood and Jake Lever both were downgraded in picks due to coming off knee injuries in TAC cup. Both obviously should have been rated at the very pointy end of first round

7&8 - Stephenson probably gone, so will say... Coffield & Boner please

Imagine BT calling Bonar....

18yo, 190cm, 90kgs...he looks goddamn 30+. Is the kid some kind of CIA experiment/project x type shit? Trout, get him.

I can see what's going to happen. I'll get right into the draft, pick out the two players I hope we land and then BANG! We won't have 7 & 8.

Just like last year trading out ten, which besides being a great deal, was a blessing as I had my heart set on Florent who wouldn't have been available with our pick.

Only one slight problem here and that is that he was also best earlier in the year for the AIS team that was full of the best of the best and he was also terrific in the champs.

I'm not sure what you're basing your opinions on, but they vary markedly from those I've read who have seen him play say 10-20 times in the last couple of years.

He bosses games of footy, is a contested "beast", is explosive and powerful, terrific in one-on-one marking contests up forward, or on the lead, is also extremely strong overhead for someone his size, has a big leap, tackles ferociously, he kicks very regular goals and has a booming kick, on both sides.

The sort of stuff that Dangerfield has done up forward a couple of times recently is the exact sort of stuff that Rayner is capable of when played forward and when he plays midfield, he wins a ridiculous amount of contested ball, is hard to tackle, quick, an excellent kick and a great size.

He has so many of the attributes that clubs dream of getting in one package.

As above. It's all about the impact of those disposals and how many of them are contested/from contested marks, and also probably his tackling and of course goals. He is a "match-winner" with serious weapons.

This fend-off stuff is laughable, as it is just one small part of an extremely extensive package of highly desirable attributes.

In the champs for instance he "only" averaged 19 disposals, but 11 of them were contested and from memory he also averaged two goals per game and spent considerable time forward in those games, possibly due to injury. (I read someone say a couple of months back that he kicked so much on his left in one of those champs games because he had an injured knee at the time).

Late in the year he was also reportedly playing with a broken thumb/hand (yet still had 11 tackles in one game in spite of that!), so I imagine that also didn't help.

If you think 19 disposals and two goals a game in the champs is nothing to get excited about, one Jack Billings averaged just 12 disposals per game in the champs in his draft year and was bloody lucky to make the AA team off the back of it. He went pick 3 in one of the strongest drafts ever in spite of that.

The queries on his endurance and possibly his unwillingness to go interstate (if those rumours are true) will probably mean he doesn't go no.1, but if he was exactly the same but with better endurance, I doubt there would be any doubt at all on him being the consensus no.1.

Even if he only ever had bursts in the midfield, if we got him he could give us an awful lot of what we get from Membrey (in terms of marks and goals), who is a similar size, but with more disposals and tackles and much better crumbing, x-factor and so-on, at ground level.

He's the type that would be bloody hard to match-up on and who I see becoming more and more desired as teams become less willing to play more than one or two "talls" up forward.

And if he does manage to get his endurance up to midfield standards you could genuinely be looking at another Danger/Dusty type as far as the impact he could have goes, IMO, as his CP numbers and general attributes would suggest.
