Only one slight problem here and that is that he was also best earlier in the year for the AIS team that was full of the best of the best and he was also terrific in the champs.

I'm not sure what you're basing your opinions on, but they vary markedly from those I've read who have seen him play say 10-20 times in the last couple of years.

He bosses games of footy, is a contested "beast", is explosive and powerful, terrific in one-on-one marking contests up forward, or on the lead, is also extremely strong overhead for someone his size, has a big leap, tackles ferociously, he kicks very regular goals and has a booming kick, on both sides.

The sort of stuff that Dangerfield has done up forward a couple of times recently is the exact sort of stuff that Rayner is capable of when played forward and when he plays midfield, he wins a ridiculous amount of contested ball, is hard to tackle, quick, an excellent kick and a great size.

He has so many of the attributes that clubs dream of getting in one package.
I'm not saying he's going to be a bad player, he's still top 3 of this draft in my opinion.

I'll never profess to seeing a lot of him beyond highlights on the net. He really doesn't remind me at all of of Dustin Martin and even less Dangerfield. Yes I understand your point you're only comparing when those two play in the forward line but their main position is in the middle. Even excluding his endurance, from my limited experience watching him he's primarily using his bulk to get the footy rather than reading the play which is fine and we've seen a roughly similar manchilds in Dunstan and SPP come in comfortably in the AFL as well.

His best position is playing as a high half forward with scope to run through the middle occasionally. I think he has the potential to be be a gun but if we are trying to trade up to get pick 1/2/3 to get him, we might as well try and use pick 7 and 8 to get Petracca who I think is probably better in every way apart from evasiveness or even cheaper to try and Stringer who is probably even more explosive and we know can play at AFL even whilst being on gear etc..

I know you rate him ARR and I do as well to a degree but I think LDU is a much better prospect whose skill will translate better to AFL and is probably what we'd need more, a better kick, gets more contested ball and is just as fast getting out of stoppages.

Also for the late reply but I had to watch more of the campaigner just so I can be confident in what I say :p

How can you make those judgments on him from just watching highlights on the net?

Semi educated guess tbh.

It's really a lotto. All of his junior stuff means nothing if he goes to a club that can't develop him properly, also which club he goes to can have different opinion on his best role.

Also Dustin Martin is the best player this year and there is a junior we can draw parallels too also adds to the hype of "the next Dusty" with the snazzy haircut and the don't argue and robust build.

Lastly, Petracca was the better junior and he hasn't truly brought that form into the AFL but he's had some games where you know when his tank is right he's going to be a multiple AA so that's why I rate Petracca higher.

You can't rate someone higher because of that though. Maybe wait 3 years for Rayner to be in the system then make a judgment? I'm sure if they were in the same draft it would be neck and neck. And also 'all that stuff means nothing if an afl club can't develop him' that's litterly the same with every draftee. Should probably listen to the judgments made by people who have seen him live 10+ times and seen petracca live 10+ times at the same age. You can't argue a point based off a highlights package..

those saying rayner won't have an impact/play for a few years, gresh doesn't have a tank, but he's explosive and has x factor. I'd probably prefer LDU (probably Dow more so), but rayner is going to play some games and kick some goals if he does a pre season

But then what's the point of forums if we can't argue whose dick is bigger :straining:?

Tbh, since aussierulesrules post I did watch more than my customary youtube binge and sure I'll never claim to be a avid draft watcher but I think I know relatively enough to throw my hat in. I could be wrong and if we somehow end up getting Rayner I really hope I am but I'm comfortable with my assessment.

Question for everyone. If we traded up to pick 2, what is your draft list? Whose name out of the top 4 would you read on draft day (unless they went pick 1).

With the Haynes rumour a trade of 7/8 for 2/19 becomes more feasible.
