Stephenson looks like a risky one. His field kicking looks like he hasn't played for that long, in that his ball drop seems too high and awkward, and as such he butchers it a few times a match..... however; he still has a massive impact on games, even dominant games and around goal his kicking his suddenly fluent and accurate. If we take 2 picks to the draft and he slides available would it be worth the risk? Surely that much raw talent could iron out into something special?

On another note, BT would lose mind calling Steven, Stevens, and Stephenson in the one game.

Yeah I get your point, but I think he has a high ceiling and if we have 2 top ten picks then is using on a guy who is raw yet still rated consistently in the top 7 players really that bad of a move? If we have 7 and 8 and he slips then him plus Coffield would be great.

All Trout really alluded to was that they are looking at players who can kick the ball well. Can't argue with that.
This Trade/Draft period will be crucial to the future of Trout & Bains as they have had a good go at building the list there will be no more excuses going forward it is their time to deliver.

Some of us were worried Bains would take up a lucrative role in the AFL.
He must be quaking in his boots that you have him on his last chance. :/

There's no hiding from it they need to start delivering on the ground we haven't played finals since 2011 at least Trout needs to have the heat turned up we talk tough & deliver bugger all same old same old year after year .

i kinda get this feeling that there is some pressure on them now ... part of me also (of not basis of fact just gut feel) wonders if Ameet jumping through the AFL hoops for the AFL job perhaps took his attention too far away from his actual job at the Saints ?

Go back 2 years and take Armitage out of the side and tag Steven each week.
Its ridiculous to think that the kids aren't coming through.

Go back and draft Angus Brayshaw instead of Paddy, and we make finals this year. But we don't win them , and we are pretty stuffed without Reiwoldt.

That's not trouts problem.

Trout and ameets job is to bring talent into the club. They identify it and bring it in.

From there the coaches need to develop it.

Speak to anyone in the industry and they will tell you a draft pick is just a number once they come through club doors. Every player is equal at that point. Development is more important.

Given they've done very well at the trade table (the best of any club by a long long way) and have also done well in finding elite talent like billings Gresham plus good smokie talent in Sinclair Webster newnes etc. That tells me the issue isn't list management or recruitment. Sure they're going to make mistakes but they're getting a lot right with what they have. They haven't been blessed with the first rounders at Melbourne or GWS or GC.

You can have the best recruiters in the land but as Adelaide and Sydney have shown over sides like GWS and Melbourne unless you utilise the talent it means absolutely nothing. That's our issue now. The club needs to utilise and develop the talent it already has. This draft isn't going to help that and it's not going to help us make finals in 2018.

Development is HUGE .. but also there needs to be a strong focus on bringing us what we need .. we tend to bring in the same sort of player every time i would like to see us roll the dice and bring in a real x factor player .. we have got some good players from the drafts but someone to bring some excitement back would be nice
