I don't think you are but I'll play it out for you but next time ask questions first and shoot later. Works better that way.

Next years first, Casboult compo (band 2 or 3), Marc Murphy and pick up some GWS salary (again) for the two players..

Now you can laugh. :)

ok, I didn't mean to be rude.

You guys did very well getting Marchbank and Plowman for what now look to be real good deals. Other than that, GWS have not shown a willingness to let their best talent go for cheap. They held very firm with Freo when they first chased McCarthy and they ended up getting a worse deal for their stubbornness. But they can afford to be stubborn. They got 2 (good) firsts for Treloar and they got Heath Shaw at age 27 for Taylor Adams. They got Ryan Griffen (coming off a great season) and Pick 6 for Tom Boyd.

Josh Kelly is a superior player to each of those guys and his value currently is much higher than them. He is going to cost 2 very good first rounders at the very least imo. Your 1st this year and your 1st next year is the absolute minimum for Kelly.

Hopper was one of the elite kids in his draft year, he has been injured a bit so hasn't quite come on just yet but you only need to see that he played 10 games in his rookie season to see how highly GWS rate him. And its not like GWS had the injury list last yr that they've had this year.

Murphy is a gun mid but he's turning 30 this year, as much as GWS are clearly in win now mode, I doubt they would do Murphy for Hopper straight up. Just as they did not do Griffen for Boyd straight up. Murphy + Crows 1st (if Gibbs leaves) might be sufficient for Hopper.

If Kelly chose to come to Carlton, I can see your 2017 1st + 2018 1st being the framework for the deal, you may need to throw in the Casboult compo pick too. I don't see you then having the ammo left to get Hopper. I certainly dont see a realistic deal that would leave you with Kelly, Hopper whilst also retaining your 2017 1st.

So to get Hopper + Kelly I think it would cost:

2017 1st Rounder
2018 1st Rounder
Marc Murphy
Bryce Gibbs trade (presuming you get Crows 1st which lets say falls between 15-18).

Again, I just can't see us trading this years first unless SOS deems that the players he wants have concerning, character issues.

I wouldn't even bother discussing who may be there at 15 or 25 right now. What's the point?

I agree we won't trade/swap down our 1st pick.

But there IS a reason to consider picks in the latter 1st round. That reason obviously being Gibbs.

IF he leaves and Hopper chooses elsewhere, we could very well have picks in that range.

Aint June such fun :)....we could have anything, we just don't know what. Let the speculation run wild lol.

If Gibbs goes, there's every chance we have a pick smack-bang in the middle of that range (15-18) - so I think it's a perfectly valid discussion to be having.

Thanks to those who've offered up some names, will hopefully be able to watch some footage tonight and see who stands out.

Every chance that the player around that mark, hasn't even been spoken about just yet.
This time last year Taranto was around the 15-20 mark, Simpkin at about 30 odd and some didn't even want to hear about Florent.
Of course we can try and put a name to players in that 15-25 range but we're firing darts from a long way out......and will probably miss wildly. :)

This years first though.........??? Now that's interesting.

Sure it's all wild speculation.

It's why i don't care much for the June/July sweepstake specifics myself.

Like you, i think the only near sure thing is we keep our 1st Pick. So that is what interests me most at this stage.

But guys spitballin names in the late 1st round is no more wild speculation than trading our captain.

Not having a go at that Murphy speculation either. It's just speculation afterall.

Should we shut this thread down then?

It's harmless speculation at this point of the year, you don't have to partake if you don't want to. Not being rude, just not sure why you'd feel the need to poo-poo some draftee discussion in the draft thread?

That beats a LOL, so congratulations on that front alone.

Do you know what has been touted as a possible deal for the 2 players in question? You don't do you?
All you have is a smart-arse comment that doesn't say anything, other than to highlight your ignorance.

Come on HARKER, be honest mate, if we managed to keep our first and get Kelly + Hooper, I think GWS need to be checked for drugs.

Kelly alone is worth more than our first pick, to add Hooper to the mix, is just pure fantasy.

It's up there somewhere.

By all means go for it and I look forward to partaking.
I don't think Gibbs will go and I'm not even sure what band we'll get for Casboult should he go.
Once any of those events take place, I'm in boots and all. :)

My current top 5 for the CFC

1. O'Brien
2. Davies-Uniacke
3. Cerra
4. Stephenson
5. Higgins

I can laugh at that later, but that's how I feel for now.

Right at this point in time, all phantom drafts would be approximately 60% in accuracy. So anyone that is listed as a 1st rounder now, only around 12 of those kids will be accurately deemed as 1st rounders. So many factors that change between now and draft day

It is all part of the discussion, which always makes for good reading. Let's just enjoy it!!

It's your thread. You laid down the rules in your OP and I am enforcing them.:p

And fair enough...but it is "our" thread...not mine.
Sometimes the discussion on picks lead us discussing possibilities of where those picks will come from and then it becomes a LM thread.

Some big games coming up this Friday and next Wednesday, so no doubt we'll all be on track by then. :)

Josh Kelly would be one of the few players, that IMO SOS might consider trading this years 1st for, mainly due to he's age fitting in with our list profile, so we are still adding a elite level young talent.
If we do end up with a top 3 pick, we should try and hold on to it and find another way to trade for Kelly, if we have a pick in the 5-8 range, then I'm pretty happy for that to be used in a trade for Kelly.

Not a Rayner fan Harker ? IMO he is right up there with LDU as the top prospect in this draft class, others would have Cerra in that conversation too.
Top 5
1. Rayner
2. LDU
3. Cerra
4. Worpel
5. LOB

how can drafting be separated from list management? - please explain....

it is like saying 1+2=3 now lets analyse the equation but separate it into different threads so that we analyze the 1 in one thread and the 2 in another thread because you don't discuss odds and evens together - even though the answer is a combination of both or the combination of both being the answer can't be analysed without reference to the relationship between both...

just illogical does not compute!!!!

Jab, the stuff IS all connected, but you don't want to bog this thread down with list management stuff.

We need one clean, safe place where the discussion is focused on the 2017 draft pool; who you like, who you don't, youtube vids and u18 match reports etc.

I would approach it like this

Good
IF we acquire a late 1st rounder I like this guy
IF Gibbs goes, this guy looks like a skilled inside/outside mid replacement
We don't have much ruck support for Krooz, I think we need a ruck/fwd prospect; I like this beanpole or which ruck prospects do you guys/gals like?

Bad
OK, so let's trade Gibbs and let Casboult go as FA. Then package those picks and our first rounder this year for Kelly and Hopper. Let's target Lynch as FA next year and pick up Sicily with our third pick. Hawthron still owes us a favour, right? Is that a thing? If that all happens, I would choose this goal-kicking midfielder and small forward to plug the holes in our side.

Basically, the draftees being mentioned can be done in the context of what we need and don't need. If less than half* of your post is talking about draftees, you're doing it wrong. (* is arbitrary, but prob reasonable).

IMO the best approach is if you want to discuss our team's strengths, weaknesses, potential recruits, trades and strategies (you know, List Management stuff), do it in the List Management thread. And then once you have decided what that means in terms of 2017 draftees, come in here to discuss which kids fit the profile...
